Impala Guys????
I need to find out what year Impalas started to come with disks up front. My brother has a 70 with all around drums and needs disks to keep the beast under control at the lights. Any help would be great.

The first year for discs on the Impalas was 1967. 67 and 68 are not desireable setups, so the 69-70's are the two years to look for. Good luck,
the 69-70 disc brakes are a direct swap in for the 65-66 Impalas and they are hard to find. They changed the design in 1971. Jim |

Well, the 1970 Impala is the rarest Impala made since that is the year the union went on strike and only a handfull were made. If 67 was the first year I wonder why this one has drums.

I believe until 71 they were an option, not standard equipment. I'm not sure, but I think my 70 Biscayne had drums all around also. I guess I didn't pay much attention to stopping back then. It was all about go. I was 17 and was going to live forever.
Edited. I looked up info on the 1970 car resto package Chevy sent me by mistake. Looks like drums (11") were standard on unless you got a special options packages like cops cars and speed packages. The front disk brake option was RPO J52.

Here's a tip though, if you find any 1970 Caprices in a parts yard, they came standard with disc brakes.
