Canadian Members Appraisal Companies.
Where have you gotten your truck appraised at? I am thinking I will be using Appreciated Auto Appraisals out of Edmonton. HAs anyone had luck with them or others?
I have moved ,yet again, to Grande Prairie AB, and I have seen an old, rusty truck with a phone number on the window advertising they do appraisals. I know nothing about either company, but I have seen "Appreciated" plaques in vehicles at car shows. Any Comments?????

I've heard that the shadier companies will give you a much bigger number, but the insurance companies know that and will insure it for what they think it is worth. So I would like to have an honest number rather than a blown out of proportion fake number that isn't worth the paper it is printed on. I heard that from the guy who painted my truck and he has a few old cars, none that are appraised, but he hears it from other customers.

Email me if you want me to find it, or I will forget. repo@shaw.ca

I GET MINE APPRAISED AT A LITTLE CAR LOT JUST DOWN THE ROAD, THAT SPECIALIZES IN OLD CLASSICS & MUSCLE CARS. HE CHARGES $10 & TAKES ABOUT 10 MINUTES. THIS WAY I HAVE A AGREED UPON VALUE WITH MY INSURANCE CO. & CAN HAVE FULL COVERAGE ON ALL MY TRUCKS. JOHN

My dad does insurance appraisals in Fenelon Falls, ON. You should contact PAVE, they are a insurance appraisal association, I believe that they cover the country. Another company to contact would be Silver Wheels, they insure classics and could refer you to a recommended appraiser in your area.

jyj- 10 bucks and takes 10 minutes? sounds a bit sketchy...i talked to a local appraiser last summer and he said it costs 175 bucks, he takes photographs, writes a 2 page report on the truck, documents all the reciepts and puts it all in a portfolio type thing, you get 1 copy and the insurance outfit gets the other

You are right, approx. $100.00 plus good ol' GST AND PST, at least two pages and about 6 pictures of the vehicle including interior, exterior (front & rear), engine compartment and trunck/pickup box interior. Plus you should get 2 copies, one for you and one for the insurance company as previously stated.

YEP .. $10 BUCKS ... ACTUALLY HE DOESN'T CHARGE ME ANYTHING BECAUSE HE'S PALS WITH MY INSURANCE AGENT WHO SENT ME TO HIM. (BUT HE NORMALLY GETS $10)
BUT YOUR PROBABLY RIGHT... SPENDING $175 FOR A FEW PICTURES & A SHORT STORY ABOUT YOUR TRUCK MAKES MORE SENSE THAN JUST A 3 PART FORM FOR $10. AFTERALL THEY JUST ANSWER ABOUT 20 QUESTIONS YES OR NO & EITHER EXCELLANT-FAIR OR POOR, THEN THE OVERALL CONDITION OF THE TRUCK. THEN THEY LOOK UP THE PRICE, ACCORDING TO THE CONDITION. JOHN ( WOW .. I JUST REALIZED THAT I'M SAVING ENOUGH TO BUY A PERFORMER INTAKE MANIFOLD & ALUMINUM TIMMING COVER.)

I have an appraisal for my 67 chev from a well known respective company and it took him about 1 1/2 hours to do my truck he went over it from top to bottom even had a micrometer and check all my body cracks doors to fenders ect.I got 2 copys as well. It cost me $125.00 3 pages of EVERYTHING on and about my truck including 6 photos of my truck and trust me he had to take his own even though i had some.He also gave me some cards for my windsheild for car shows ect.And because of this I am also able to insure my truck using a 19A form which is important if you are going to get good insurance he appraised my truck at $22,500.00 and it is insured for $26,000.00 hope I never have to make a claim. Reputable and responsible is the way I would go.

MAYBE IT COSTS A WHOLE LOT MORE IN CANADA, THAN IT DOES HERE IN THE US. :p I REALIZE YOU GUYS ARE SPEAKING OF SPENDING CANADIAN DOLLARS, BUT STILL.... CANADIAN DOLLARS HAVE TO BE WORTH SOMETHING??? SURE .. I COULD PROBABLY FIND SOMEONE TO CHARGE ME $175 FOR APPRAISING MY TRUCK... BUT WHY??? JOHN

The Cheapest price I've heard of is $140 and up to $195. If it costs me $200 to make my truck worth $15,000 to $20,000 rather than the insurance wanting to give me $500 for it, I'll spend it. If I could find it cheaper, I would.

NOW LET ME CLEAR A FEW THINGS UP ABOUT APPRAISELS & INSURANCE COMPANYS, AS I HAVE BEEN INSURING THESE OLD TRUCKS WITH FULL COVERAGE FOR 19 YEARS. JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE $20,000 IN YOUR TRUCK DOESN'T MEAN THAT IT WILL APPRAISE FOR $20,000, APPRAISEL IS WHAT IT WOULD SELL FOR ON THE OPEN MARKET, & NO INSURANCE CO. WILL INSURE IT FOR MORE THAN THE APPRAISED VALUE . & IF IT SEEMS ARTIFICIALLY HIGH, THEY WILL SEND YOU TO AN APPRAISER OF THEY'RE CHOICE. THATS JUST SILLY. IN ORDER TO INSURE ANTIQUE VEHICALS YOU FIRST HAVE TO HAVE AN APPRAISEL DONE ON YOUR VEHICAL. THEN YOU HAVE TO COME TO A AGREEMENT AS TO THE AGREED VALUE OF THE VEHICAL BETWEEN YOU & THE INSURANCE CO.GOOD LUCK TO YOU GUYS. JOHN

I can send you proof of my appraisal and my insurance papers I DO have mine insured for more than my appraisal I pay alot more but what I do know is that IF and for gods sake I don't but if I do get into an accedent I know that I will get what I have invested in my truck as I can not afford to build another 1 for no $500.00 I deal with the silver wheels in Quebec Canada. If I could not get enough insurance to cover my appraisal I would not deal with that insurance company. My belief is if its worth it, and you can prove, it insure it.

Junkyard John -
there are a few companies out there that will insure a classic for a "agreed value" without an apprisal - #1 Hagerty - send them pictures and tell them what it is worth...they agree and you're done...you total it or it gets totaled you get whatever the agreed value is. They don't insure "daily drivers" but if you got a show piece or cruizer..they are probably the easiest and best company to deal with no matter what ins company you use make sure your policy is an "AGREED VALUE" and read the policy....please read it..you can get screwed over if you aren't careful. you would be surprised at some of the numbers that appraisers come up with for older vehicles. Yeh his truck wouldn't sell for 26,000 but he might have 15K in reciepts and if it is ground up resto...the labor is somewhat figured - the main question is...if your truck is totalled what do you get? fair market value or the Agreed Value. the wording in your policy is very tricky..and I would check it very carefully!!! especially the #1 Definitions #2 Part D ("Coverage For Damage To Your Covered Auto") - the "Insuring Agreement" and the "Limit of Liability" sections under this Part #3 Part E "Your Duties after a Loss" (you don't follow them..and they will deny your claim) - And I know what i'm talking about because I work for an Insurance company and I am a Licensed Appraiser - appraising is my job! (mostly newer stuff) but none the less and i don't work for AllState, Progressive, SafeCo, etc or any of the other companies that are "not the most customer friendly" *******Junkyard...take it easy on some of us - you railed me last week for saying a frame should only be worth 100-250 depending on condition (not the $500 you think thier worth)..and i gave you links to show you other board members selling in that price range...but i don't remember a reply back!!!! and as i recal you said "are you just posting to see your type in print" or "print in type" or something like that...which was uncalled for!

I USE ALLSTATE, YEH I KNOW, JUST FLAME ME FOR IT, THEY HAVE ALWAYS
TREATED ME RIGHT, I WAS TOLD TO KEEP ALL OF MY RECEIPTS AND I WAS GIVEN A BLIND APPRAISEL, OVER THE PHONE, FOR "GQ" AS SHE SITS NOW, I HAVE ALL THE PO'S RECEIPTS TOTALLING ALMOST 30K, HOWEVER HE SAID WITHOUT A TRUE APPRAISEL THEY COULD NOT INSURE IT FOR THAT, THEY WENT 15K FOR NOW, AND I CAN GET IT RAISED AFTER PAINT, I CAN'T GO OUT AND DRIVE IT, IT'S NOT FINISHED ANYWAY, BUT I AM COVERED FOR VANDALISM, FIRE, THEFT, TORNADO, ETC... OH YEH, AND I PAY $14.36 YEAR FOR THAT COVERAGE ON "GQ" SO I'M NOT COMPLAINING ONE BIT.

LUV2XLR8 -- YEP .. I'VE GOT BOTH MY BLAZER & MY TOW TRUCK INSURED FOR $11,000 & 10,000 A THEY COST JUST UNDER $100 EACH EVERY SIX MONTHS. IT'S KINDA FUNNY... MY G/F HAS HER 92 GMC JIMMY INSURED WITH THE SAME CO. & SHE JUST HAS PL & PD & HER INSURANCE COSTS $250 EVERY 6 MO.S. ARKRACING - I DON'T KNOW WHAT INS. COMPANY YOU WORK FOR, BUT NOT A SINGLE ONE THAT I KNOW OF WILL WRITE YOU A POLICY FOR MORE THAN THE FAIR MARKET VALUE YOUR VEHICAL. IF THEY DID WHAT WOULD STOP PEOPLE FROM INSURING A $600 VEHICAL FOR $25000 & HAVING IT MAJICALLY DISAPPEAR.??? AS FAR AS OUR PREVIOS DISCUSSION ON SWB TRUCK FRAMES... I WAS TALKING ABOUT RUST FREE, DISC BRAKE FRAMES, COMPLETE UP TO THE STEERING GEAR BOX, WITH AN AUTOMATIC CROSSMEMBER IN PLACE, & A VALID TITLE. I SOLD TWO THIS SUMMER. 1 FOR $300 & 1 FOR $500 . YOU CLAIMED RUSTFREE FRAMES WERE NON-EXISTANT WHERE YOU ARE FROM. IT JUST CRACKS ME UP WHEN A NEWBIE CLAIMS AN ITEM IS ONLY WORTH X AMOUNT OF DOLLARS - BUT OFCOARSE HAS NONE. CHEVYMAN67 ... STILL WAITING TO SEE PICTURES OF YOUR $26000 TRUCK . JOHN

I never said an insurance company would write a policy for more than the fair market value. But it is easy to get an appraiser to inflate the value on a truck, if the company has a value from an appraiser saying the truck is worth "X" then they will insure it for that much...but that doesn't mean that is what the truck is worth or that you will get that much money. The company will insure it for whatever..60k if you want..but if you read the policy it will say something to the effect of "we agreed to pay the lesser of...could be fair market value vs. policy, or policy vs. NADA. Just cause it is insured for that much money doesn't mean it is worth that much or you will get that much if it "magically disappears" it's all in the policy wording...like i tried to say before. - you HAVE TO READ IT or you will be disappointed if you have a loss...
It is all about the type of policy that you have - "Agreed Value" being the top choice for a "collector" vehicle. as far as the frames...insert foot in mouth "just just sold two this past summer...1 for $300 and 1 for $500" well you just admitted that you sold one for $300 never was it mentioned that we were talking about complete rollers -ready to drop a truck on. Even if there was a "rust free frame" in the northeast you would have a hell of a time getting $500 for it...people don't think that stuff is worth anything up here you just have to be right don't you...whatever - why do i even bother and your one lucky SOB to be paying under $100 to insure something every 6months

ARKRACING .. IF YOU'LL LOOK UP THE OLD POST YOU WILL SEE THAT I DID TALK ABOUT SELLING ONE FRAME FOR $300 (ACTUALLY I SWAPPED IT TO AN AQUATENCE (SP??) FOR A NEW 67-68 COWL HOOD. HE IS A DISTIBUTER FOR GOODMARK & HIS COST WAS A LITTLE OVER $300) & ANOTHER FOR $500. (QUOTE)and your one lucky SOB to be paying under $100 to insure something every 6months (QUOTE) YOU WORK FOR AN INSURANCE COMPANY & YOU CAN'T GET $10,000 WORTH OF COVERAGE FOR LESS THAN $100 EVERY 6 MONTHS??? MAYBE IT'S TIME TO SHOP AROUND. BUT I'M STATISTICALLY THE KIND OF GUY YOU WOULD WANT TO INSURE. I'M 46 , NO TICKETS OR ACCIDENTS OR CLAIMS. I HAVE 3 VEHICALS, MY HOUSE, MY LIFE & HEALTH INSURANCE ALL WITH THE SAME COMPANY. (QUOTE)you just have to be right don't you...whatever - why do i even bother (QUOTE) NOW YOUR STARTING TO SOUND LIKE MY EXWIFE. JOHN
