Either are probably good. A 6" susp. lift and 2" body lift will give you a lower center of gravity than a full 8" susp. lift. It's also easier (and cheaper) to get more axle articulation with less suspension lift, typically. On the other hand for most offroading, 8" suspension lift would probably be the ultimate...

thanks for that uncle h.ive got to talk to an automotive engineer and see what i can do.need to get engineers report to make vehicle street legal over once you go higher than what the "dot"(department of transport)believes to be safe(1/3 higher than a standard vehicle, measured between bumpstops, they must be standard bumpstops as well)i'd rather go for spring lift rather than body lift, saves having to alter bumper bar mounts etc.

For what tire size do you need 8 inches of lift on, what?, a 67-72 K20?

I'm running 35s with 4" and 5" on my trucks, the tires do rub on my GMC but backspacing could help with that. Should only need 6" for 35/36s.

thanks for that,i'll probably end up going for 6" lift, and if i think that its to low its not a big job to chuck in a body lift.

i use to have a 1979 scottdale it had a 6" spring in the front and 4" blocks in the back with an add a leaf so it would sit level.i was running 35" x12.50 groundhawg tires on it.but if i was to do it again i would use 6" springs all the way around for better traction and my state does not allow blocks any more either.

You will have no problem running 35's with a 6" lift.
