What brand of radiator hoses to use?

Monday or Tuesday I will be installing a fan shroud and new radiator hoses. What brand of radiator hoses do you use?

I have a story. I recently purchased from NAPA a lower rad hose for a '72 K20. The hose did not come with the anti-collapse spring inside. I asked the parts guy if he had another hose available with the spring inside. He looked in his parts books, said no, and that he has found in his experience that the cheaper hoses (thinner wall rubber) come with the springs, but quality hoses don't need them because they have thicker wall rubber and maybe thicker nylon cords inside. I'm pretty sure the NAPA hoses are rebadged Gates hoses.

Take it for what it's worth.

I couldn't find a lower rad hose for my 69 C/10 anywhere (even tried GM on a long shot) so I went with a set of cool-flex type (gloss black powdercoated with black fittings) and I'm real happy with them. Went on super easy and no leaks. Doug

I checked Napa Online today and could not find that hose. All the expensive hoses had the internal spring. I like the idea of no spring since it would flow water better but that is probaly insignificant in the big picture. Most of the expensive upper hoses had springs and I found that strange. Maybe incorrect information on their online pages.
His theory sounds good and Sacramento gets pretty hot during the summer months so collasping hoses are not fun. Thanks.

I had purchased a NAPA hose for my '71 K10 burb with 350 and rad with upturned bottom hose nipple. I'm pretty sure it's different than a 2wd hose. In any case, I also liked how the hose did not touch the frame. I've yet to run it and discover any collapsing problems. That's why it's still just a *story*.

What is the NAPA part number? The PN they list is PBH4207463 (cut to fit)(equipped with steel coils) 18.5" @ $6.49, though they sell a NBH7463 (equipped with steel coils) 23.2" @ $16.99. Makes me wonder if a name is worth $10.50. I will call the local warehouse NAPA store and ask what the difference is.

Agree on not touching the frame. Just a leak looking to happen.

I don't know the p/n. I pulled & tossed the label. I do remember that the label only had 4 numbers, so it wouldn't help differentiate between the two you posted. "7463" sounds right (for my app, at least).

I use Gates belts and hoses. Napa belts and hoses are Gates. Also, while on the Napa subject, Napa oil is Valvoline. My uncle has worked for a Napa store for 24 years and tells me all this stuff.

I have heard of these but don't know the 411 on them. Tell us more. Do they last longer, handle heat better, cost less? Where can you buy them? Do they use steel coils? Do they make a 7459 or 7463 (NAPA talk)? Thanks? Tim
