The next LFD How-To!
Just a teaser for now but I will find the pics I took last month and do a full write up.
Here's the thing, I like the look of the 70 grill and you really do not see many left as a 69 or 70 when they are done. But then my wife really like's the lines of the 67-68 but "Slow Build" has already been converted to a 68 and I don't want them all to look the same so this was the middle ground! It only took about 8-10 hours to do the chop & swap and I sure like the way it looks. I will get more pics of it installed on the truck as this one it was just sitting on their until I have an hour or two to get it primmed and all lined up before the surface rust sets in. I had a bad hood that came on my 70 2WD Blazer (over 1/4" of bondo all over) but the very front lip was good. Then I bought a 68 hoon off a board member but it had been hit a bit in the front hood line. So by using the two of them for one it let me get inside the front of the 68 and work out the damage and get rid of the bad part (like 90% of it) of the 70's hood. And now I have a good hood for the 70 Blazer for now So is this write up wanted by others or should I just do a quick over view? I will start a new post when I have time to sit down and find all the pics and do a detailed write up. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: The next LFD How-To!
I think you should do a full write-up on it. This would be a good addition to the FAQ IMO. As usual, NICE WORK!

Re: The next LFD How-To!
I would like to see another from you, but that is just selfish on my part.
It is easy to see how much you put into these write-ups and I already can't see where you have any time to sleep with all your other duties, like a wife and baby room and the house and oh, yeah, a job with a horrible commute. It just takes a little of my time to read through your builds and I can do that as it is convenient. On the other hand, if you are going to be doing this work as a business for others it may well pay off for you in PR and proving your skills at all diferent types of situations/problems. If you were closer to me I have a half-dozen things I would be happy to pay you for. But that won't work with the distance. Thanks for the ones you already did and all the tips you shared with everyone who asked. Thanks again,

Re: The next LFD How-To!
If you can spare the time, I am very very sure that there will be more than a few that will spare the time to read it. MYSELF for one.
I really like the look! If it's all good to you and you do make a go of it for yourself Lewis Fabrication Design Inc. hit us with the meat of the story and sell the detailed plans to the guys that actually want/need the details for doing these MODS. themselves. Just a thought. It would help you and us alike then right. I would be happy to pay for this type of info from you if the time arises that I want to do this MOD. Here I go again costing myself money I could have just said YES I would love to see a detailed write up RJ22...

Re: The next LFD How-To!
Do the write up. I have seen people ask about this on at least 5 different threads since I joined the board in 2002.

Re: The next LFD How-To!
Yeah..I'd like to see this "How to"...even though I've already got 68 front sheetmetal for mine...
*One a side note* Seems like a no brainer..that Tri-Pro or somebody would be able to make a 69-72 hood with the 67-68 slope!...I mean they've already got both hoods in reproduction

I'm very fond of the 69/70 hood/grill but I sure like the change you have done - would enjoy reading the write-up.

Re: The next LFD How-To!
There was a member that did that to his truck ( maybe it was a burb ) awhile back. I think he may have since been banned though. Dont remember if he did a write up though. Even if there was one there is no way it can compare to Rokcrln's write ups.

Re: The next LFD How-To!
Thanks guys and yes I first saw it on a burb here on the site but he never went into detail about what or how he did it. I started this awhile back with my Vidio camera so I am slowly converting the footage to still shots then I have to transfer them to my regular Digi cam and to the computer so it will be a bit before I get the How-To up for you guys but it will happen just as fast as time allows. Here are a few pics I got transfered tonight.
The first one is just the outer skid tacked to the inner structure from the 70 hood. Second one has the wire edge placed for the hood gap. I did this because the stock 69-72 hood edge is not gapped the best and when you add a raked hood like th e67-68 it really make it stand out. So the wire helps give you a nice edge to weld to and shape how you want. It might look tough but it really is simple to do. Third is the wire edge Tig'd in place. Mig would be alot easier and work just fine for this job but I wanted to practice with my Tig so why not. Fourth and Fifth are with the hood ground but with out any metal work done yet. That is all for now I will work on getting the rest of the pics out and aranged this weekend in my spare time Kevin LFD Inc. |
