Interior Cab update

I don't usually do a lot of the work on my 70 LWB myself, but I'm ready to strip the interior and sand the surface rust, prime/rustproof, Dynamat, and paint the cab interior and I want to do this part myself. Couple questions:

1. In ya'lls experience, what's the most efficient tool to sand down the interior on this dude? Grinder, drill, orbital sander...I'm open to anything.
2. What's the best coating to put on it after it's sanded to keep off the surface rust before paint or Dynamat?
3. Are any of the brush-on sound deadeners as affective as the peel-and-stick products like Dynamat? I'm most familiar with Dynamat from my stereo days, but I'm open to a better/better value product.

Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks to all....

Duffer,

At one time or another I used all of the above on the interior of my cab, plus sandpaper in hand. Where the paint is sound you just need to scuff it up so the new paint will stick but the rust areas will need the grinder/wire wheel treatment and a good primer. I think I would use the POR15 or Rust Encapsalator type paint on the floorboard if it is rusty but you have to be careful using it on areas that the paint will show. If you don't primer the POR15 while it is still tacky, paint will not stick to it. I'm not sure if Eastwoods Rust Encapsalator works the same way or not. I then shot a coat of primer over the whole interior and painted it.

I'm sure others will have some tips to add or other ways of doing it and will post those too.

Thanks Lock, I'll do a little research on those products to see where I can find them around here.

As far as your statement about 'good primer', I don't have any kind of paint setup, will a rattle can type primer do the job or will I really need to step it up? thx for the info.

Re: Interior Cab update

I found the foam sanding blocks work well in some areas.I also used steel wool.If I had used it first I probably wouldn't have had to paint except that I was changing colors. The steel wool really cleaned up the old paint well.

I personally wouldn't rattle can it although I'm sure many have with satisfactory results. I use it on suspension parts and such but it's pretty thinned down for serious priming... Just my opinion.
