Smoke form the right rear tonight

When I got home tonight I saw some smoke coming out behind the right rear tire. I smelled what seemed to be a chemical smell. I have not been able to pull it apart yet, but I thinking it may be something really bad. It was not the tire itself and seemed to be coming from the brake area. I am wondering if I should look at other areas as well. Help would be appreciated.

Re: Smoke form the right rear tonight

Just to add to this. Could my bearings cause the kind of smoke I saw?

Re: Smoke form the right rear tonight

park brake could be sticking. may need new rear pads. if its the rear bearing or brake pad next time you drive it stop after you have used the brakes some and see if the wheels hot. could be either the pads or the bearing. if it were the bearing you would see an oil leak eventually cause of seal failure on the back side of the weel. another good indcation of seal failure is thick oil dirt on wheel.. my guess is u probably just used your brakes and they got hot, might be thin and time for some new shoes..

Re: Smoke form the right rear tonight

I have had problems with my park brake. Maybe I should look there first. The only reason I thought it may be bearings is that I know the rear end is original. I did use the brakes heavy befoe it happend now that I think of it.

Re: Smoke form the right rear tonight

Is there anything else I should look for besides brakes and bearings?
