Just bought a 72
Well, I picked it up yesterday and gave it a good bath today. I bought it from a guy who lost interest in finishing it out, although it is largely done. It is a Cheyenne Super LWB, but some of what made it a Super is off the truck. He repainted it a Ford color--Cayman Pearl (blue-green). The glove box label matches the VIN and equipment wise it is largely a Super, although there have been some cosmetic changes. He did give me all the Cheyenne trim in case I decide to go back to original someday.
I bought it because the 350's bottom end was recently re-done and it really seems to have a straight body. Factory air was a plus, as was the power steering and brakes. New glass and somewhat new seat. Cab corners were replaced too and it doesn't have much rust that I have found. It needs the A/C hooked up, one of the front turn signal housings, rear bumper mounted, and a lot of tuning and tweaking. Brakes definitely need attention, so that will be the first order of business, although I have some wheels coming in too (nothing special, but they will look better than the 15x7 Rallys.) My first truck in 1988 was a 1969 LWB, but it was pretty much worn out. I am glad to be in one of these again. So, whatcha think? Last edited by Silvius; 09-23-2007 at 12:07 AM. |

Re: Just bought a 72
Thanks
As the pic shows, I need to get the correct length bolt stud for the air cleaner, or "modify" this one. A couple of rust spots underneath but nothing major. The part that I think is called the cab connector needs to be replaced because of the rust, but I have heard that isn't too big of a deal. Underneath it has some surface rust but not really any rot. I haven't totalled up the $$ yet as I still have to pay tax on it and pay for the wheels I have coming in. A buddy who has better wrench skills than me is going to help me with some tweaking tomorrow. I'm sure he'll recommend some parts and that will cost some bucks too....but that is part of the fun isn't it? New stuff to replace the old! Last edited by Silvius; 09-23-2007 at 12:13 AM. |

Re: Just bought a 72
One more picture for kicks...the grill shell could use replacing (it doesn't look as good in person as the pics show) but that can wait a while. The missing turn signal housing, lens, and wiring you see cannot wait, however.

Re: Just bought a 72
you dont need a longer air cleaner stud... just the factory spacer that is supposed to be between the air cleaner and carb

Re: Just bought a 72
Thanks for the replies.
Planned changes: Brakes that work (these leave a lot of stopping power to be desired) 15" alum wheels w/P275 60s window tint for side windows not yet sure about what mirrors I'll go with |

Re: Just bought a 72
Yeah, I thought about bigger wheels but that will have to come later. For now that is what it will wear.
Thanks for the comments. I am looking forward to upgrading/fixing it. |
