Re: Door threads stripped ???????
I had this problem on one of my car hauler doors. I drilled them bigger with "U" drill (.368") and retapped the with 7/16 - 14 threads. You can use a 3/8 drill but the threads are a little tighter with the "U" drill. You will also have to make the slots in the hinges bigger and wider (which isn't a bad idea on these trucks anyway). I did mine with a 1/8" carbide burr in a die grinder, but you could do the same thing with a Dremel.

Re: Door threads stripped ???????
I have welded fine thread nuts to the inside of the mounting plate and also, retapped the threads to 7/16-20 as 67 C-30 did. Instead of opening up the slots, I machined the shank down where the slots line up with the bolt and remachined the 5/8" hex head to a 9/16" hex.

Re: Door threads stripped ???????
Helicoils will not work because you are dealing with thin metal. What will work is a threaded insert for thin metals. I have attached a web page that has the threaded inserts. I believe that you need a 3/8-16 thread. You drill out the thread with a 9/16 drill and the insert is two pieces, one on each side of the metal and tighten the two pieces together and that sets your insert. The web site shows an insert that has been installed. Another option would be a rivet nut
