Brakes fade to soft

Hey fellas need a little help.

I have a 72 C10 LWB. I have disc front and drums rear. NO PWR Brakes and NO PWR steering. Brakes have slowly started to fade over the last few weeks. Usually no problems pumping and getting pressure and after a few miles downm the road Brakes stop well but when at idle and stopped pedal drops all the way to the floor, sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly, a few quick pumps get brakes working again.

Frequency is increasing.

Thoughts?

thanks

Re: Brakes fade to soft

sounds like a bad master cylinder. have you checked the brake fluid level lately?

Re: Brakes fade to soft

pull the carpet (or rubber matt) back on the drivers side. Is there a wet spot rolling down the inside firewall eating the paint.
If so... go to the parts store and get a new master cylinder.
if not... bleed the brakes and adjust the rear shoes up.

Yep, I agree. MC aren't hard to replace. The just look hard. You can do it in an hour with two guy (you and a friend, a son, a daughter, your wife etc) Bench bleed the MC. Install. Bleed the lines. Your good to go.
