14 bolt rear end hub difference

Can anyone tell me if I can take a 1ton dual wheel rearend and convert it to a single wheel rearend. It looks to me like I would have to change backing plates hubs and axles and drums. But I still am not sure if the housings are a different length.

Leave it alone and just put singles on the dual hub.
Yes, the axles are precisely the same between SRW and DRW. The hubs are identical also, except that the DRW hub moves the wheel mounting surface inboard about 3/4" or so. The axle housing is the same dimensionally, except for the backing plate flange is welded in a different position. You'll just have bigger brakes in back.

The hubs are different they stick out a lot further on the dual wheel rear than they do on a single wheel. I wont be able to put my center caps on my wheels. lol

Then now would be a perfect time to put SRW hubs on and adapt some disc brakes on the rear. You could reuse your hub bearings (if still good) and keep the same axleshafts. You'd just need a longer than normal spacer to get a 4X4 front disc brake backing plate to line up.

We're thinking on the same level. I was thinking since the backing plate flange was in a different location I could probaly get away with that by using disc brakes.
