One Fire and Three wrecked Vehicles in 30 Seconds
Have I got a crazy F-ed up story for this weekend! I was pulling my 67 out of the 2 car garage into my steep driveway. Parked in the right parking spot in the driveway was my 2005 Mercedes C-240. As I backed it down the driveway the rubber fuel line connected to the carburetor ( the only 12 inches I have not replaced yet) cracked spraying fuel all over the engine and garage floor. Than Woof!! It lit on fire, my buddy yells fire so I turn off the truck which kills my power brakes ( not good on a steep driveway) I try to put the truck in park and get out of the truck at the same time , I accomplished . With the door open and the truck rolling backwards, the open door hits the Mercedes and fold forward to the front fender , scratching the whole side of my car…… It gets better after I clear the car I try to get out and end up getting dragged in the street before falling out on to the ground. The truck continues down the street striking the side of my buddy’s bagged mini truck. I get up and run into the garage, that Is on fire, grab the fire extinguisher and put my garage and driveway out than run down the street and put my truck out.

If my truck ever catches on fire, I'll wait about 10 minutes, then call 911... I need a new project anyways...

Sorry to hear what happened to your vehicles, but I am glad you or anyone else didn't get hurt real bad or even killed. Damaged vehicles can be fixed or replaced, friends and family can't. James

Re: One Fire and Three wreked Vehicles in 30 Seconds
Thats a horror story if I ever heard one and Im sorry for the loss of good metal but glad for no loss of life.
I had a accedent kinda like that a few years back when the edelbrock 750 on top of my 400 s/b in my buick grand national decided to transform from a carb to a huge zippo lighter. Just so happened I was coming down the big horn mountain pass "steepest grade in america" and while on fire the brakes went out to this day I dont know if the fire did it or just random coinsidence but i was on fire heading down with no brakes and no power steering. All I could do was steer the car into the mountain and try to slow down while burning up real fast. Ended up making it to one of the Semi brake ereas that go uphill in sand and got it stopped in time to step back and watch the whole car burn down...total loss. worst part was people drove by and wouldnt stop and i dont carry a cell and beack then they really wasnt any. Ended up having to pay a fine also for the damage to the habitat . Things like that maybe 1 in a million but when your the 1 and it unfolds its a hard cookie to swallow. |

Do you have a Sixty seven long bed? (no Marker lights?) If so i have a 67 bedside in Fort Worth that you can have. It is in excellent shape. You would just have to come get it.

The 2.5L in my old S-10 burned a piston & blew oil everywhere, including up the intake & caused a nice fire atop & down the engine. I then found out how few people would ever bother to pickup a cell phone & call for assistance. Even with flames coming out of the engine & me waving my hands in the air, no one called a soul. It was a good 10min before the first car stopped & let me use their cell phone.

Amazing. Thank God nobody was hurt and the house did not go up in flames. I guess I will be using only hard line for all my fuel lines. Stay safe.

Re: One Fire and Three wrecked Vehicles in 30 Seconds
A 1 dollar piece of rubber fuel line and a crappy spectere fuel filter caused my truck to ignite one day. Once I put it out, I decided that day to tear it down and rebuild it. That has been 8 years ago and several thousand dollars ago. Everytime I see one of those fuel lines and filters I cringe.
So I feel your pain.
