Factory Tow Hooks

Does anyone know which tow hooks go on a '66 K-10 as well as how they are mounted? Anyone factory drawings or photos would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

Thank you for the photo. I am curious, did you add these to the truck or were they on the truck at time of purchase? The reason I ask is that they have more of a post-1972 look to them. All of the earlier hooks I have seen are thicker by the bolt holes and would not sit flush with the frame. I have attached some photos I ran across some time back showing the hooks from the '67-'72 era to help illustrate; I have yet to see anything for '60-'66. The difference over these years seems to be how the hook is curved. None of the factory books actually show which hook or where or how it is mounted on a 1966 model. The factory used a metallic blue big window base model K20 with a camper in some photos that had tow hooks but none of them actually show the hooks in detail. Also, I have seen hooks similar to the '67-'68 on '60-'66 trucks but each truck had them mounted in a different fashion (see attached). The impression I got from the trucks I had seen was that the hooks were added over the years by someone other than the dealer or factory.

Again, thank you for the photo. I checked out your link and you have quite the collection. To call it amazing is an understatement.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

The pic with all the hooks is part of my collection. The first hook is 60-68. I know someone had a decent pic on the 67-72 side of the 68 hooks mounted, but i can't remember who...

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

Thank you for posting the photos. They are very helpful.

Incidentally, am I missing something here? Who posted anything for sale? This discussion is regarding identifying the right hooks and their location, not the sale of a set of hooks.

yes, you missed the comments made in the previous post because they were edited out and replaced with the "red" text to inform the poster of a violation.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

Great photo of the c 20 4x4 with period wide base black rims. I bet larger trucks used the same style hook, but mounted on top of bumper. This is the best shot I could find.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

The larger trucks had different front hooks. They mount flat to the top of the frame. Dam now I have to find a pair of rear tow hooks. Ref. 1964 GMC Accessories.

Ref. 1960 GMC Accessories. Interesting how they state front and rear tow hooks using the same picture. Maybe there's just a hardware difference! Need a picture of a big 1960 to see if they match

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

rear ones would be nice, would make more sense than the front.
Only good reason i could come up with for the front mount, is that the reverse gear is lower than the granny first, so = more power to pull?

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

Chevy option number is V76 for the hooks, and it is the same option number for pickups and larger series trucks. I believe the hooks shown on the dump truck I posted are the same used on pickups, just mounted upside down. GMC used different vendors were it came to some accessories. The ones on the Chevy definately have a twist and curve to them, while the GMC shown look straight.

Had hooks like that on my firetruck that I just sold. I got a reply from : http://www.clevelandhardware.com/ they gave me the number of a local supplier. They sell the 2801-C RH & LH. they also sell 2801-A which match the large truck hooks.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

Can anybody show me the correct location for the front factory tow hooks? Are these pictures correct? The 1st pic is what I have. The next 3 are where I believe they locate, and the 5th pic is a rear hook I have. Looking for 1 more still, but they are tough to find.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

Yeah, I couldn't find any either. I have found reference to them, but no install documentation. Guess it'll come down to a matter of preference? I dont think that a few inches in or out of the frame will make much of a difference as long as they are bolted to the frame. Im hoping that some more people will chime in here on it.

Re: Factory Tow Hooks

I have finally found some time to work on the truck again. Priorities are probably out of order, but have been moving alot of logs around on property so I want to get the hooks on. Here are some pics of the front hooks and the measurements. They are alot larger than most people realize. Part # 3663349-50 . Bolts are 3/4" and will be using grade 8 hardware. These list as 1960-68 c-10 / c-30 except DD and 4x4.
