Any fabricators want to make me something

I don't really have anyone local who can make these. Someone want to make a pair of these for me. Let me know how much, I need these.

The outside dimensions are 5 inches high (just under actually) by about 6 1/4 inches. The 4 corner holes are actually 7/16ths not 9/16ths like the picture says.

Re: Any fabricators want to make me something

Thealien, you about to get your LS engine in? I'm test fitting mine today. Good luck with the plates. I found after having mine cut out at one shop and having the one hole countersunk(different design from yours) at a machine shop I could have bought them cheaper off the internet from one of the shops. What engine perches you using with yours? I'm trying the 6 cyl. perches with mine and my homemade/shop adapter plates, stock motor mounts for 327. Good luck. Jim

Well mine is a cluster**** !! Waiting for my transfer case to be reassembled. I keep hearing tommorow for a couple of weeks now. I need to keep my transfer case in the stock location so I don't need to alter my driveshafts or transfer case shifter (4WD stock ride hejght really complicates things). I still need to finish painting my frame and it has been too cold anyway. I even bought a propane heater but it barely helps after a few hours! Once I get my transfer case installed I will put in my 4L60 that I had to have a different output shaft, reluctor ring, and adapter to mate it to my NP205 (detail in link in signature). The transmission and transfer case will determin my engine location which will be about 2 inches forward which causes problems with my crossmember/front differential interferance. I have a set of the adapter plates with the point that everyone makes and sells. That puts the mount/crossmemebr too far forward. According to my measurements the plates I want made will move my mounts back 2-3 inches depending which end I place the adapter plate. I can't go too far back or it will start causing issues with exhaust also. I had Kert at DIY4X4 make me a crossmember but it may not work. His frame brackets, polyurethane mounts and bushings and motor mount plates will definately work. Until I get these plates made I can't tell if his crossmember will work, it will be close. I still have lots to do before I put the engine in place but I figure 3-4 weeks and then I will either pull the engine again to powder coat the crossmember or I will have someone local fab one up from a template I will already have made by then. Here is the crossmember Kert made for me. I had sent him a template made out of metal and he was very reasonable but I think this can be improved on.

Re: Any fabricators want to make me something

Lets see if this helps:

I wanted to keep my t.c. in the stock location, also. I connected my LQ9/4l60e with the adapter from AA, also. I also used a spacer between the tranny and the t.c. adapter. It is the one we have discussed for the 700r4 conversion. I took a AA LS mount adapter and flipped them to the opposite side. i.e. the left on the right and the right on the left. I cut off the extra portion of the plate so it would fit. That then moved my engine about 1.75" or 2" forward, from what I remember. I used a custom '73+ style crossmember and clamshell motor mounts. The crossmember was a couple inches above and rearward from the D44 pumpkin. I then put on 4" lift springs. I'm not sure if the mount would clear the stock lift if it were flexed...but it might have. I wanted 4" lift, regardless.

Re: Any fabricators want to make me something

Thanks for the pics but I do have a couple of reasons to not go that way. I want to use the stock flex fan in the stock shroud so I want to be able to have a little leway up or down with my engine, using most of the DIY4X4 frame brackets will allow me that flexibility. Without a lift there is no way to have enough clearance without some kind of custom crossmember. I do have a plan though (third time is a charm.). I had originally planned on doing just as you were doing with the adapter plate (cutting and using on oposing sides) but I have already made swiss cheese out of mine trying a few options. I figure this way I can start from scratch on the plate. Plus all the adapter plates out there are 3/8ths and I want mine 1/4 which I feel is plenty strong enough and it will help with Kerts crossmember being a little too narrow on the bolt holes (even though I am probably just going to make a new one using his motor mouts, bushings, frame mounts and the plates that bolt to them).

Re: Any fabricators want to make me something

Sometimes figuring out all these little things is sooo frustrating! All the little things add up to so much time "wasted".

Good luck.

Re: Any fabricators want to make me something

Ain't that the truth! Hopefully by the time I am done I will be able to help others from making my mistakes. I'm in a borrowed garage too and don't want to wear out my welcome! Should have a lot of progress in the next 4-6 weeks. Until the next snag rears its self!

2WD would be sooo much easier!!
