New project,71 GMC 3/4 4x4

Here is my new project the day it was delivered to the house, it had to be towed in due to multiple fuel line failures on start up after 3 years. The truck spent most of it's life in California and has been here in Oklahoma for the last 7 or 8 years with the last 3 or 4 sitting in a driveway unused. So far I am just changing all the fluids and tracking down a bunch of leaks. It is mostly rust free except for the driver side outer rocker and lower inside door. I will keep the post updated with any new changes.

Re: New project,71 GMC 3/4 4x4

That`s a real fine example of a Sierra Grande K500.I`ve had thoughts of going black with mine.I see another gauge was added, too.Unless it`s a trans temp or other gauge not already in the cluster I suspect the tach and that gauge weren`t functioning properly and adding a new unit was seen as easier.Nothing that can`t be put back to original with ease. Was the interior originally saddle or black?I see the saddle carpet and wonder if the vinyl wasn`t dyed black when the seat cover was done.I`m going with a saddle interior. Those slots couldn`t be in a more perect place bolted on that truck.IGot me a set of them, too. Thanks for the inspiration!

Does it have a 5th wheel mount in the bed?Can you get outside pictures for us?I`d like to see a rear 1/4 shot down the side...my favorite angle. How about a picture of the spid(option sheet on the glovebox door)?

Re: New project,71 GMC 3/4 4x4

The extra gauge under the dash is for engine temp, the one in the cluster does not work. The interior is all black that nice bronze color is from sun fade. It does have a fifth wheel hitch called a Cartwright hitch, I have never heard of that type. I'll get some updated pics added soon as it look alot different after being cleaned up. I will also add the spid picture and the 8 track brackets for 71blksuper4x4.

Very nice truck! That is a big ol score. I like the military tires as well. I'm sure those are very popular in Ca with all the hummers out there on bases.

Re: New project,71 GMC 3/4 4x4

Here is another truck that has cheyenne super trim but no A/C. Anyone have a break down on that? Or is that a sierra grande/cheyenne thing?

Re: New project,71 GMC 3/4 4x4

Hey Reed, if it's not too much trouble, can you cut some templates or draw some out with the dimensions of the 8 track brackets? I need to duplicate them out of some metal, and also what did the bottom bracket on the passenger side of the 8 track mount to? Thanks a million, Trevor

Now you need to find a set of correct bucket seats. That truck probably deserves an original restoration. Even the 8 track is cool, (and rare)
What are you future plans? Eric

Nice truck, i have the same truck just in worst shape. What are your plans for the truck? Just a DD or offroad truck? Are those 33's with no lift?

I agree...the GM 8 Tracks are not that plentiful and is fairly rare. What speaker layout does your truck have? The knobs are correct and they are the same knobs that you will find on the oldsmobile 8 track. Very solid truck Reed's72.
Oh yes... and from Roseville Ohio!

Re: New project,71 GMC 3/4 4x4

thanks for the comments, I've changed my mind about what to do a few hundred time in the last 3 weeks but for now I am going to keep it the way it's looked for the last couple decades. The paint buffed out pretty well but the lower trim and the rockers need to be replaced. I'm trying to keep the projects down to 4 or 5 days so I can enjoy driving it on the weekends. The wheels are 33's on 16.5 rims no lift.
