sleeve bag vs. convoluted bag

i am just wondering what one advantage has over the other. i have to trucks with off the axle setups now and they both perform great. i was just wandering how they would perform with a sleeve style bag. my dually project has the bags on the inside of the frame because of the narrowed axle and dual tires in the rear. my new project is single wheel with the bags in front of the axle inside the frame. any advantage of a sleeve bag? any help would be great thanks. daniel.

Re: sleeve bag vs. convoluted bag

I'll do my best here. Think of a bag as an "air spring". Where the volume and pressure of air will set the 'spring rate' and 'load capacity'. The style of bag, rolling sleave vs. convoluted, also plays into the load rate. Rolling sleave, or 'slider' bags are usually lighter duty than convoluted, but offer more travel. I usaully like to use convoluted bags in the front, or on IRS, and rolling sleave bags on the rear. Matching the bags load rate is the key. if they are matched well, the bag should ride at about 100 psi, thats the sweet spot. Also, the bag should be mounted so that it is in the center of its travel at ride hieght. In a perfect world, you start by knowing the corner weight, add aditional load if needed (towing), then choose the bag that fits the middle of your specs. Firestone and Ridetech list bag rates and dimensions on their sites. I hope that helps

Re: sleeve bag vs. convoluted bag

Leverage on the bag is also a factor. A bag in front of the rear axle will ride smoother, and a bage behind the axle will carry more load
