Looking for 16" steel wheels

I would like to run 225/85 R16's on my 72 4x4. Can any one tell me if there is a plain steel 16" 6 bolt wheel available with the correct back spacing to clear the front disk brakes. Also, will the original 15" dog dish hubcaps fit a 16" wheel ? Thanks RR

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

The square body 3/4 tons came with 16" wheels in the later years instead of 16.5". The HD rims will fit from 2000-2009 trucks as well if you want chrome steel. Edit: 2x4 rims should be the same in 8 lug. I would consider the 255 85 16 as a better choice for tire size.

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

Good luck I have Three that came as a option on my 72 K-5 and I have been looking for One more to complete the set. I have a set of dog dich caps that i am going to run and they fit fine. The picture is my 16" x 6.5 Wheel and the option list that shows them

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

There were optional wheels and they are pretty hard to find. I believe you could have some made or buy some from a specialty wheel outfit like Stockton Wheel. To answer the hubcap question, the diameter doesn't matter. Any wheel with the 6-lug pattern will accept the same caps.

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

Have you tried steel wheels from other makes such as Ford or Dodge? The previous owner of my '73 K20 had 16.5 wheels and he wanted the availability of a 16" tire so he switched to 16" wheels which happen to be Ford and fit just fine. I run the original dog dish hubcaps on them. Of course these are 8 lug, but you may have other options.

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

I had a burb back in the day!! It had them on it stock. 1970 1/2 ton Tenn. state hwy. truck. Yes the dog dish caps fit. Good luck they were hard to find even back then in 1975.

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

My avatoar show the 74 k10 axles and stock wheels on my 59. Front discs. I sold a donar that had a set too. I can probably find a set around here if you want to pay for shipping. Last week a guy was giving away a set of 8 hole steel rims and tires. Don't have the tire size here but the rims are 6" wide, tire has 7" tread and 8" at widest point. Probably a R225 75 16

He's looking for 1/2t as in 6-lug GM pattern.

You can spot the GM 16" wheels a mile away.See in Corsair's picture, the vents are much larger even if you don't pick up on the extra inch in diameter and profile of 16" tires vs 15".

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

You know, I went back and re-read the original post BEFORE I initially responded, and I know it said 8 lug. I must be losing my mind which I am sure the people around me would agree with...

The later 6 lug rims will NOT work, and I wasted a little bit of cash finding that out...

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

Funny story I was heading down the highway today and passed a truck with trash and yard clean up on it going to the dump and on top was a wheel and tire holding stuff down It looked like my wheel!! so I whiped around and caught him at the dump entrance and told him my story but it turned out to be a dodge van wheel. Im starting to act like a crack addict looking for this wheel!!! LOL
My buddie runs the dump and has a mountain of wheels & Tires the size of a football feild and 30' high waiting for tire removal and scrpaing of wheels he told me I could have free rein to look thru them, I think I will take the plunge may find other treasures too?? Special K your right on the look of these wheels
I know I will find One?????????????????????????????

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

I have four of these... but they are on my 66 K10. I didn't know they were so rare. In fact one has hole in it and I'm currently having to use a tube, but I think I'll get it welded up and keep them.
Good luck in your search! If i change my mind I'll post up.

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

My 70 k10 has those, I think. I will check in the morning. I'm pretty sure I have 6 of them. I will post up in the morning. The wife ran to seattle this weekend with the computer so if they are the ones you want you'll have to pm your cel number so I can send you a picture

Look at my Ulimate work truck thread in my sig. The first picture shows them. I know they're 16".

Re: Looking for 16" steel wheels

I have not had any luck finding any around here, looks like everyone except me tossed them for cheap mags or smooth chromies.
