67 frame questions
after a lifetime of searching (it feels) i finally found a swb frame. its local. i'm thinking i'm getting a great deal on it too. sorry no pictures til the weekend. it has no engine, trans, doors, or interior but the frame and bed sides are great. i have some questions though...
1) is there a problem with a 72 cab on a 67 frame? because i plan to use my good parts from my 72 lwb (5lug, disc brakes, brake booster, ect...) the truck has a step side bed in decent shape, 2) how is my 72 cab going to look with 67 step side bed? i cant wait to saturday comes to get started on this.

Re: 67 frame questions
The cab will have side marker lights and the bed won't.

Re: 67 frame questions
No parts problems I know of, step beds have no marker lights nor do cabs.

Re: 67 frame questions
It will work. I have a '67 front clip and cab on a '69 swb frame with '71 running gear and a '68 short step bed. It will have a '74 454 with a '71 SM-465 tranny.
That is what cool about the the 67-72 trucks things are interchangeable. The '67 frame does not have a dimple for power steering, but the steering box can be shimmed.

2. A 72 cab will be fine with a 67 bed. If you want the 67 step bed fenders to match the 72 front fenders you have a couple options: a. shave the side markers off of the 72 front fenders. b. sell the rear fenders off of the 67 bed that have no side markers and replace with 72 style fenders that do have side markers.

Re: 67 frame questions
i did a similar swap and the routing for the brake lines is different but not hard to adapt/change.

Re: 67 frame questions
I am in the process of swapping a '67 SWB frame under a '71 long box truck. Here's what I have come across:
There is no dimple in the frame rail for the later year power steering box. I heated my '67 frame up and smashed it with a hammer. Now it's dimpled. The holes are smaller for the core support bushings like said above. The Poly bushing kit I bought from Summit fit the holes perfectly but I haven't got the front clip on yet to see if it works right. The brake and fuel lines routing is different. I believe the '71 has the evaporation line and a fuel return line. The '71 also had saddle tanks so it's somewhat of a mess but I'm sure I can make it work easily. Looks like the brake lines from the proportioning valve down went on the outside of the frame on a '67 but inside on the '71. Not a big deal to make it work either way. My '67 frame had some brackets to support the engine/trans at the bell housing. I read this was a '67 standard trans only thing. Also, I think there may be some trimming on the upper inside edges of the frames on either side of the motor area after '67 to make room for the 400 but I'm not certain about that.

Re: 67 frame questions
Brake lines are different on the front end and you have to use an adaptor for the rear end at the prop valve but thats no big deal at all. youll also notice youll have to bump a dent in the left frame horn area to accept the p steering gear better. other than that I dont think theres any real difference. I used 72 front and rearend for 5 lug disc brakes on my 67 and it was no real challenge

Re: 67 frame questions
tomorrow's the day. thanks for all the info guys. it made the difference in deciding to get this now, and picking up a '01 later. as opposed to getting that 01 now and prolonging this swb project.
