cylinder head question
i was given a set of cylinder for an early model 350. I want to make use of them but my question is this: they are 3 holes where the water circulates, one bigger one in the center and 2 smaller on each side of the bigger hole. there is little metal between the big and smaller holes and in one place a small piece of metal at some point broke away due to rust whatever. no the smaller hole and the bigger are essentially one. So.. are these heads going to be worth saving?
hopefully this makes sense |

Re: cylinder head question
Since the head must seal to the block with the existing design head gaskets my guess is you will end up with a problem. My advice would be to scrap them.

Re: cylinder head question
With as common as small block heads are, I would scrap those and look for another pair.

Re: cylinder head question
do you have a pic? I think small block 400 heads have extra water jacket holes, if this is what you are seeing its not a problem, however since they were given to you and I know small block 400's were bad about cracking heads I would have them checked before I just put them on.
