Crossmember removal with the engine in place
I'm intending to swap a clean, painted, disk brake front end into the '68. Obviously, I have to unhook the bottom end of the front motor mounts from the x-member to do so. I'd leave the top of the mount attached to the frame, then put a come-along between the frame rails. If I don't support the motor from above, will the frame horns roll under and/or splay out?
I know the better option is to do the suspension work with the motor out, but that's in the cards anytime soon. What have you guys done here? Thanks.

I haven't tried it with the engine in so I may be missing something but I always figured I would block the engine up under the pan after I had the jack stands under the frame. Maybe that wouldn't leave enough room to get the cross member assembly out. I haven't really looked at one that close with the engine in.... I bet it isn't going to be a lot of fun with the engine in. LockDoc
