69-70 grill insert

I bought a NOS grill insert of of Ebay , it was in a GM box dated 3/99 but i can't find any part number on the part also the rectangler openings are all silver but the original insert in my 70 c/30 is only painted silver on the edges and it has 1 inch black edges every 7 inches . So what do you guys think is NOS and GM just got sloppy or did i get screwed

Re: 69-70 grill insert

Sounds like a 69 grill. 70 is as you described on your truck. I don't think there is a positive way to identify the 69-70 grills. No part numbers on them. How much was it?

Re: 69-70 grill insert

69 grills were all silver. I think that was all that was available from GM after the 70s.

Re: 69-70 grill insert

I was always told that there was a strike in 70 at gm and therefore lots more 69 and 69 parts than 70. Most nos parts are usually 69. I could be wrong though

Re: 69-70 grill insert

Sounds like a typical replacement part. What people seem to forget is that GM repair parts were/are not the same as production parts and often didn't even come from the same supplier. If this has a 99 date on it then it likely a licensed reproduction but could be a last of the dealer replacements.

Re: 69-70 grill insert

agree, sounds like a 69 grille. isn't it the case that 70's aren't reproduced, only 69's?? So, if you order a 69-70 grille from a vendor, you're actually getting a 69??
Seems I heard that somewhere on here.

However, dtd 99, it could still be NOS, possibly. Is it possible that GM stocked 69 grilles as 69-70??

Here is an example of the differences as built. 69 is rectangles and 70 has 12 sets of fins.
