Re: Rear tire

Lots of people have encountered this. It can be especially bad if you have aluminum wheels.
I had this happen on an 86 Z28 that I was parting so I simply pulled the diff cover and slid the axles out.
or
You could try to loosen the lug nuts a few turns and drive around the block.
or
Open up the brake adjusting hole, back off the rear brakes, and remove the wheel and brake drum together (make sure the parking brake is off).

Re: Rear tire

That's a first. Never heard of anyone having that problem.

I would suggest getting more leverage. Make sure the truck is really secure on jack stands. Take a 5' section of pipe or a landscape digging bar and chain it to the wheel then pry it off. If that doesn't work then smacking the wheel with a sledge probably couldn't do any more damage to a wheel that's rusted so bad it won't budge. Sounds like you have to replace them anyway.

Re: Rear tire

i've found sometimes using a drift and a large hammer and striking the center of the axel flange wjere it is rusted to the wheel will help break up that rust and allow u to remove wheel

Re: Rear tire

If your drums are grooved, that can cause an undercut/draw problem with the brake shoes.

Re: Rear tire

I've had a couple 6 lug wheels that were just slightly smaller at the center hub opening. If someone had installed them with an impact,it's possible they would have "press fit" onto the center hub and seized. It will take some perserverence to remove them. You may be able to remove it using some of the above methods.Good luck.
