76 and 87 interchange steering coulmb?

Just got a complete tilt wheel from an 87. Besides the differences like the lights/wipers how different are they? Can I take parts and make my 76 wheel tilt? I did a search did not find much but i could swear ive seen it posted here before.

I would say the only real issue would be the wiring differences for the headlight dimmer switch. Far as I remember the wipers and headlight switch are still on the dash for 87, so that should not be an issue.

Your 76 intermediate shaft won't work on the 87 column either but if you got that with the column you will have to just figure out the wiring. If it were me I would just buy the right column for the truck and save yourself some headaches

the wires aren't a big deal if I can use the coulomb I don't want to remove the dash controls. so what you are saying is there there is no possible way to mate these or parts from them? the major issue is I can't find any tilt coulombs in my are and this one was free.

Anything can be done but im not sure if you would be able to disassemble the columns and switch parts. You could in all likelyhood get the turn signal switch o ut of a 73-82 column and put it in the newer column and swap over the electrical part of the ignition switch if that will also bolt up but at the very least you would have an ugly hole and that large piece on the side of the column which wont look right on your truck... there are tilt columns out there for our trucks you gotta pay for em tho as they are getting rarer

Re: 76 and 87 interchange steering coulmb?

I have seen the right columns anywhere from $100-150. Like I said, anything can be made to work with some ingenuity but it really depends on how much you want to do. The big thing that won't work is the shaft that goes from the bottom of the column to the steering box. As long as you got it with your free column you can bolt it up.
