72 Duramax Swap

I have a 72 3/4 ton 4x4. I was talking to my cousin and a buddy of ours and I am now seriously thinking about droppin in a duramax/allison. Ive thought about doing this several times before, but now im thinking more seriously about doing it. Anyone done this before? Ive heard of this but have never actually seen one done. I know that you have to use the factory gauge cluster for the dmax, but i was wondering if there is any company that makes a standalone computer so that maybe i could use the 72 cluster with aftermarket gauges? any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 72 Duramax Swap

I installed a Dmax in a 1993 H1 Hummer. It was a breeze. I bought a roll over truck off ebay and used the whole drive train and wiring harness. I sent the harness and computer to Pacific Performance Engineering in Cali and they turned the harness into a stand alone setup. I did not have to use the factory gauges and used all Autometer gauges. Just be prepared to swap front axles as the duramax transfer case setup is drivers side driveshaft.

Re: 72 Duramax Swap

I will definitely check into that.....what year dmax did you use? i did know that about the transfer drop on the driver side....i have an 06 lbz that is my daily driver. i was almost wondering if there was an adaptor that i can run my np 205 that is in the 72 now. i have a dana 44 up front now and would like to put a 60, but the only ones that used a driver side drop was ford.....and i just cringe at that thought LOL what other modifications did you have to do to your H1?
