Re: Headers and Spark plugs

I would recheck your wires make sure they are on the correct plugs, maybe got mixed up after swapping plugs.

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

What was it doing before you swapped the spark plugs and why did you only swap 4 of them?

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

Did you bump or pull off your ignition wire going to the distributor? Was it starting when you had the backfiring problem?

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

No everything was fine and yeah it was starting when it was doing the backfire, when I first started the truck I heard a big pop and ran for about 5-10 seconds then died and then started it again and it kept running with a popping noise which I'd assume is it backfiring

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

I checked and fixed the one that I mixed up, I had friend tell me that there could be a connectivity issue that it might not be getting full spark could that be the reason why it's not turning over?

So the motor just cranks but will not start? Can you smell gas getting up to the carb?

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

Yes to both questions my friend was saying that it could possibly be my battery because it all the sudden got cold here it might not have enough amps to crank it fully.

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

Yeah it's about 55 here so I really don't think that it getting not enough cold amps to start it would be pretty possible. Cause it was literally overnight that it got cold and I just had to buy a new battery in my car and I had the same thing happen, it was warm and started the day before and the next day it was cold and my car didn't start.

Throw your battery on the charger and see if it cranks up.

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

Mine recently broke down about a month ago.... It would turn over but never started up. Ended up being the coil. You can have the module tested at the autoparts store and the coil was only about $25 , so its worth a shot.

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

Okay I'll keep that in mind another friend had made the statement that if everything is fine on the truck that there would have to be some sort of resistance to prevent it from starting. And I would test the battery but I don't have a volt checker and I'm not longer at my dads house I'm at my place.

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

Yeah trust me I wish I knew it myself but I do thankfully I have a friend that's built a car from the ground up and another that's been a mechanic for about 5 years so trying to get them both to look at it to get it fixed in the first try or process of elimination

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

The second video kinda sounds like your starter isn't disengaging right. Hence the "whoooom"ish sound. At least that's what mine did, and why.

Re: Headers and Spark plugs

yeah well none the less the truck is getting a fine park and no start until I can get back on that side of town on tuesday and have a friend come help look at it, but I'm definitely going to be looking into all the options that everyone has suggested to me.
