Hello from Mechanicsville Virginia
Hello...I just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I just recently obtained my newest restoration project, a 1969 GMC Suburban 1/2 ton Ambulance. Since getting it home I have been busy like everyone else with a new toy. This is my second Suburban since I towed it home with my '96 GMC 3/4 4X4. I also owned a '71 Chevy pick up when they were new.
I have wanted to restore one of these for sometime now to replicate those that I drove years ago when a member of my local Rescue Squad. It will look good in the garage next to my restored '67 Ford police car. So far I have gotten quite a bit of useful info from these pages to help me on my way. As soon as I can figure out how to do it I will try and post a few photos. Until then I found a few nights ago several photos of it when it was "for sale" by the original owner and that were posted by a member of this forum back on 10/16/2006 when he was interested in buying it. I got it from the person that won the "sealed bid" back then. Small world.... |

Re: Hello from Mechanicsville Virginia
Thanks for the welcome Clyde. I should have acknowledged your post earlier but we have been having some mild fall weather here and I have been spending as much time as possible on the Burb before it gets too cold. So far in addition to some touch up and buffing the paint I have been installing some of the lights, putting everything removed prior to the repaint and chasing some typical electrical issues. I've also repainted the engine and I am replacing all of the belts and hoses since they were the originals from '69. This truck only has 5,047 original miles, with all of the Virginia annual safety inspection receipts to prove it. It will remain an Ambulance....

Re: Hello from Mechanicsville Virginia
Most folks would have ran away from that or cut it all up. I think its very cool that you are preserving her as close to her original glory as you can.
I have a friend of a friend that has an original 56 Chevy cop car that he restored several years ago, he only takes it to parades...on a trailer...during the day...he is so anal about it too!
