Re: Sound deadner

Fat Mat off Fleabay. I have used several brands including Dynamat and also wanted a less expensive option. Fat Mat XXX Extreme actually sticks better than the Dynamat. Works awsome.

Re: Sound deadner

look up "ezcool" insulations. works good for insulating heat and sound. I like it and use it in evertything. I just use 3m super77 adhesive and stick it where ever I need it

Re: Sound deadner

Newfisher, how is the quality?
I want something that will quiet the cab down to the point I don't hear anything unless I stomp on the engine.
(I know it's unrealistic, but I'd like to get as close as I can.)

I was very surprised. i didn't cut it into strips and strategically place them, I covered the whole floor, fire wall ,roof, inner doors ( at an angle to shed water) and rear panel. I then tape all of the seams with aluminum foil.

Re: Sound deadner

I may as well be the one to post it: The best bang for buck is Peel 'N Seal from Home Depot or Lowes.

Someone will inevitably chime in and say it smells in the heat. It doesn't but you don't have to take my word for it. Search here, search the HAMB, Google it. There are LOTS of guys who swear by it including guys from very hot weather areas like Phoenix.

Peel Seal and Fat Mat are about the same price if you shop around. I used the Fat Mat stuff and it worked well.

Re: Sound deadner

yeah well, it only gets hot up here a few days out of the year and that's into the 90's. Nothing like Phoenix. I forgot all about the peel and seal discussion on the HAMB, thanks Dan

Fatmat might be slightly more money but I just wasn't willing to take the chance on my project getting something from Home Depot that I couldn't completely trust. I live in So. AZ and that smell is a scary thought.

NEWFISHER curious as to what you mean by "at an angle to shed water". I have a 51 that I plan to cover the inner doors and they don't appear to have much of an angle on them.

Re: Sound deadner

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FatMat-50SqF...e5a6e1&vxp=mtr

90 bucks for 50 sq ft

http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/1005943...9#.USV1lh04vqE

17 bucks for 12.5 sq ft = 68 bucks for 50 sq ft

The more you buy the cheaper the Fat Mat is per square foot. I bought 100 for 150 bucks which is only slightly more expensive per foot.

I can't speak for 'Fish but I know "they" say you don't have to cover the entire interior of your door. You just have to put a large square in the middle of it to lessen the resonance or sound amplification. Makes the door NOT sound like a can. If you do that approach I'm thinking you place the square at a diagonal with a corner straight up so any water that gets into the door would flow to the bottom of the door and out drain holes rather than rest on a ledge the sound deadner would otherwise provide. MAYBE that's what he meant(?)

I have done my cab in peal and seal and it looks awesome and really has deadened the sound I would recommend it for sure. I used 5 and a half rolls of it and that equals less that 100 bucks with my 10% military discount at Lowe's.

Re: Sound deadner

Check out this stuff:

http://www.raamaudio.com/

I've read good things about it and it's nowhere near as expensive as Dynamat.
It is butyl based not asphalt. I've had some real bad experiences with asphalt sound deadners-not sticking to panel after a few months and melting during summer months. Real "ugly"!

For those of you thinking of using Fat Mat, you may want to read this review first

http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/boa...hts-on-fatmat/

This guy says Fat Mat and Peel & Seal are the same stuff. Goes on to talk about asphalt based deadners being inferior as I found out the hard way. I did a brand new F150 a few years ago with an asphalt based deadner, removed the door panels about 9 months later to find that 75% of it had released from the panels and was just hanging there.

I never had any odor in my truck but the leather, could not smell the P&S, must have been another brand, Seven years later still no bad odors!

Re: Sound deadner

For anyone considering Peel 'N Seal, the link Garys8 posted above to the Home Depot stuff is NOT Peel 'N Seal. I don't know if they've stopped carrying it and I don't know how much it has in common with P&S. I only know that all of the guys on the HAMB that said they had good results with it used the real-deal Peel 'N Seal.

If you use something "similar" you should not be surprised if you don't get the same results. Maybe Lowe's still carries it(?) Personally I'd be completely comfortable using the real stuff but would not use this other stuff.

Yes, place whatever product you choose at an angle inside the door so water (that is designed to run off the glass and into the door) doesn't settle on the product and rust the inner door skin.

I was wondering how that was going to work inside the doors. I'm still planning on using a combination of materials depending the area of the car it's in. I've suffered through too much noise and too much heat or cold getting in for way too long and would like some level of comfort this time.

My vote is for peel and seal. I won a insulation kit at the brothers truck show out in California, it included several small strips of actual Dynomat. When I compared the peel and seal from Lowes it was the exact same thing IMHO.

I assume this is looking at it close up?

Since you're in Arizona, have you had any issues with it coming loose or smelling?
