Project "April"
Hola.
My name's Maverick, I'm 15. So, I'm going to do a complete restoration on my 1972 C10 short bed (Named her "April" because that's the month we bought her) I will be doing pretty much everything by myself, with a little help from my dad, (He's a mechanic ) The goal is to work as much as I can this summer, and then throughout the school year on my spare time, and have her done by January (My birthday, so I'll get my license) The main things I'm doing to her are: Clean and re-paint chassis, switch from an inline-6 to an LS 5.3, re-do the interior, instal a "Vintage air" A/C, get rid of ALL of her rust (She doesn't have all that much, for a truck her age...But still, I'm going to exterminate that crap ha), install a kick-arse stereo system, switch gas tank to the back, install a lowering kit with C-notch (2in. in front, 4in. in back), and, (Hopefully) get some nice "Coy's: Dyno" rims for her. So yeah, I'll be posting whenever I get work done...So, keep an eye on the build, and you can message me questions if you want...I'll do my best to answer. I'll take all the advice I can get, as this is my first build. Oh, and here is a picture of the day I got her, and drove her home. Last edited by ETsC10; 05-14-2013 at 10:24 PM. |

Re: Project "April"
Nice looking truck you have Maverick . Patience is the key. Do you plan to repaint as well if so I hope you go back with original colors. Good luck glad to see another youngster that enjoys these trucks.

@nickv6266
If there is enough still in the budget, I will have it re-painted with the same colors. If not, I'll leave the paint and just give her a good buff job. |

Re: Project "April"
Got the interior out today...Easy work, but it's progress. Floor boards don't have much rust at all...I'm happy.

Don't usually follow builds but this one's got my subscription!
I say, on the paint, buff her and wax her. Paint changes color over the years and you can't duplicate that deeper glow! . |

Got the engine out today. Look at the size difference between old I6 and the new LS 5.3

Re: Project "April"
good looking truck i say just give her a good buff job if possible and keep the original paint. also with a 4" inch drop in the rear you don't need a c-notch kit unless you are planning on hauling really heavy stuff in your truck. whats up with the blue and white truck in the background ?

Re: Project "April"
Hector, the blue and white truck in the background is "Estelle". I just finished up a 5.3 swap on that one for my daughter. Here is a link to the swap:

Re: Project "April"
Got the bed off yesterday. Started sanding off the old undercoat and gunk and (Very small amounts of) rust. Going to finish sanding, hit it with primer, then put a layer of RAPTOR Bedliner.

Got her down to bare chassis. Put the cab on a table, going to sand down and then bed-line the bottom of the cab.

Re: Project "April"
Scrapped and then sanded down the bottom of cab. Welded gas tank holes (New tank will go under bed in the back). Then taped off, ready for some bed liner!

Re: Project "April"
Got the bottom of the cab bed lined. Then I built two carts with wheels for the cab and bed, and they lined up perfectly!
