GCVWR of a 70s c60? Towing question
I'm moving soon and instead of getting 2-3 10x10 storage units at $130 a pop to hold all my crap till I get a new house, I've come up with the brilliant plan to get a 28x8.5 car trailer and load it up at my current house, pay $80 to park it at a storage place, then tow it to my new house when I buy one. I need something that can tow a 10,000 lb trailer and have always loved c60s, and it will be nice to fix up the next house with a dump truck. What is the gcvwr of a c60 or f600? Can it tow 10,000 lbs or should I get a 90s 3/4 or 1 ton pickup? I see c60s and medium duty trucks all the time for $1000-3000 and can never find a decent dually for that.

Re: GCVWR of a 70s c60? Towing question
C60 will pull it no problem. I would still put brake controller in the truck though. THe bigger truck GVW varies on the truck but C60 is usually in the 22K-28K range during those years, based on trucks I have had.
With that said I see you are a fellow Marylander. DOT will give you a fit even if you are private haul, if you use it much. I have a 10K dually with a 16K gooseneck and I am stopped on side of road as much as driving with it, but only in MD. I can go VA DE PA WV no problem. Heck been as far as Bangor Maine with it and only place they hassle me is in my own back yard. If they see you running around with no DOT# or signs they will hassle you even with not for hire on the door. This goes more for the C60 rig but would still apply to the dually if newer than 2000. If you are only going to go from old house to storage to new house probably no issues. Richard

That's strange to hear they hassle you, do you ever get fined or they just check that your private?

Re: GCVWR of a 70s c60? Towing question
DOT inspectors think they are god and can fine who ever they want. In PA it does not matter if you are under 26000 lbs. Sounds like Maryland must be worse than PA.

Re: GCVWR of a 70s c60? Towing question
its easy. the state of md wants whats in your wallet. unless you argue with them they will most times ticket you for something whether or not its right. they have to justify their existance. i used to just take the ticket now i make them show me in the book how it applies to me. most times they will let me go with verbal warnings now.
