Hedman Headers? Any good?
I need a set oh headers for my 70 CST10 with a 454 BBC. Anyone have recommendations on a set that will fit without any body/frame mod's. Someone said the set from lmc would fit just fine.
What do you recommend?

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
Can't help with your 454. I have Hedman Elites on my 350 and like them a lot, I would buy them again. Nice thick flange, ball & socket collect, ceramic coated, sealed right up.

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
I have Hooker Super Competitions with 2 inch primaries and 3 1/2 collector. They fit with no mods, just have to lift truck about 3 foot off ground to install from underneath. They come with really detailed instructions.

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
I like the Hedman's, and they have a few options that are made for the C10's. Are you looking for a long tube or mid length?
Here is a mid length for the C10 w/ a BBC. Btw, we are a Hedman dealer. |

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
Some recommend mid length for low and mid range power increases. Others say there is no differance between mid and long tubes? Those Hedman's in the picture, does that coating burn off.
Debating between painted or coated? And long Vs mid length? Any recommendations? What is the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
My opinion would be to keep the cast irons and run a single 3'' exhaust, more than enough for the street

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
Running the ol cast iron manifolds currently with a 2 1/2 out threw some magnaflows with a H pipe. If ya stand by the exhaust pipe you can feel it blowing out about 2 feet away, maybe more.
Kinda wonder if there is much to gain at all with headers compared to the current exhaust system????.

If you want the some of the best built headers, you can't go wrong with Sanderson.

As for mid vs. long, it all depends on personal preference. As mentioned, the performance gains are different for each one, the full lengths providing more mid to high power, and the mids offering a little more down low. I just prefer the mid's because of the ability to tuck the exhaust better, and I am not particularly concerned with high RPM power. |

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
So either Sanderson or Hedman's headers seems to be the most recommended brands. The coated sets add so much to the price, but I don't mind spending the $$$$ if the coating holds up long term. I have a set of coated long tubes on my camaro, which over time has started to peel.

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
I have taken older headers, sandblasted them,THEN sprayed with VHT primer & paint, and it held up remarkably well. The paint that comes on headers will pop off as soon as you run the engine. Paint doesn't do what ceramic coatings claim, but that paint stayed on there after sandblasting. The Hedmans on my '72 I had ceramic coat "primed" only when new because I wanted flat black (and was cheaper). That has held up just fine (since '04).

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
I was thinking of using the VHT high temp paint. It should hold up for a few years at least. Several hundred cheaper too. I might go that route.
Special K, is that the set you ordered thru LMC?

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
Can't remember where I got these headers, but whoever has the best price will sell you the same headers. If you go the VHT route, definitely hit them with the sand blast. That stuff will not "cling" otherwise...nothing will. t least that has been by experience. Even if you have to pay for the sandblast,it's worth it. Just make sure you use someone who will be careful to just hit them lightly. They just need some "texture"

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
I've got Hedman's but haven't run them yet. Here's some photos. Part #69170 They look like a really good fit. I bought them plain because I know by the time I get my truck together I would have scratched up a coated set. They tell you that the black coating is not intended to be permanant.

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
That fit up looks nice. Did you have to notch anything to make them fit?

Re: Hedman Headers? Any good?
I had to clearance my frame for POL's motor mounts since it's a 67'. Driver's side is really close. The passenger side has tons of clearance. It only gets close back at the collector and the toe-board.
