I put a Class V hitch on the Longhorn
Title says it. I put a new class V hitch and a sport bumper that I had here for years.

Re: I put a Class V hitch on the Longhorn
That is exactly what I'm looking for! Thanks for the post. How well does the Longhorn tow? I'm looking at campers in the 15-25 ft range to pull up to the lakes this summer.

Re: I put a Class V hitch on the Longhorn
It will handle it fine. Horsepower under the hood is the weak link in a stock truck. You just can't get in a hurry.
I have a big block in this one, with a 700R4, and 3.73 gears, and it gets along fine.

With that hitch are you able to keep the spare tire? If so what is the part number, that is what I am looking into.

Re: I put a Class V hitch on the Longhorn
My spare tire support is still standing in the corner, but when my son in law put the hitch on his 4x4 he had to move the support forward a couple of inches.
The hitch came from Tractor Supply, but you can get the same one on ebay. I don't have a clue what the number was. I did have to do some drilling.

That truck looks awesome whether it's working or playing.

Re: I put a Class V hitch on the Longhorn
I was out of town for a few days, driving my wife's new Tahoe, so I haven't driven the Longhorn for a week.
Now I like the way the Tahoe drives and handles, I don't like it trying to think for me. I just don't touch buttons on it. As for the Longhorn, A while ago, I made a run to the corner store. I turned the key in that Longhorn and heard that big block lope through those Flowmasters, and I was eighteen again. It's really interesting how a truck that nobody wanted 20 years ago, can't stop any where now without a conversation. At stop lights, car guys will always stop by the exhaust pipe to listen to it. And to think, I bought it to part out.

Re: I put a Class V hitch on the Longhorn
I have a similar class V on my 68,with the spare under it too.
I've pulled my 18' car trailer(it has brakes!) with it and no problems, except I can't go fast with the 373 rear. I do have air shocks and the rear wheels are an inch wider than factory. Mike. Last edited by 100%Chevy; 01-21-2018 at 07:42 PM. |

Here's my longhorn. Making improvements as I go, hope to make a family camper rig out of it this summer.

Re: I put a Class V hitch on the Longhorn
This hitch looked the same. I ran the numbers and nothing came up. It's on a real nice 71 k10 that was built 15 yrs ago.
