Lokar petals with the cables

I installed the 67-70 gas petal with the lokar throttle cable. I running a BBC with a tall cover. I had to snake it over a air gap intake, I'm still getting a little cable sticking not much but still scary. How straight do I need to get that cable? Anyone else had the same problem? I don't need cruise control like that. lol

Did you trim out (extend) the hole in the firewall? The cable and fittings have to line up dead straight to avoid binding.

Re: Lokar petals with the cables

Yeah I did, I followed the instructions to the tee. They said to leave about 2" of slack, so when the motor leaves it won't pull the cable out. It goings through the hole above the rear wire plug. Which is right behind the valve cover. Oh and by the way you will have to move that wire grom. The petal arm will hit the wire plug coming out of the firewall. I'm going to take a little more off of the cable sheath, I can only go about 2 more inches.

If I had a small block I would have a lot more room, but its pretty tight back there.

You're not wrong! I was lucky, I've just installed mine but I had the luxury of working in an empty engine bay.

Size: 49.2 KB I just called Lokar he said it can't be rubbing going into the firewall. He said the braided cable is designed not too bind, but the entry can not be rubbing.

Well that looks ok. What about a pic in the engine bay?

Re: Lokar petals with the cables

The lokar guys said the engine bay was fine. The R and D guys looked at it with amazement, they said a 1/2 bit should have been fine for the hole. But its not, they want me to lengthen the hole so when its at the idle position that its rubbing on the top of the thing, I might have to go a ways down, to get a that point. When I used to modify my 72 I never had much of these kinds of problems but with this 68 its always something when you modify anything. They must have made some small changes. They are curious to see what I do to it to correct it. Name: image.jpg

Re: Lokar petals with the cables

I elongated my firewall hole by drilling a similar sized hole as the original and joining the two so it is oval and the fitting can slide into place. I dunno about LOKAR but my initial response to your engine bay photo was "there's your problem!" That coiling HAS to cause friction. I would suggest undoing it from the carby and try to lay it out in the straightest possible route. Take out the cable, trim the outer case to size and the re-insert the inner cable. Leave a little slack. But that's just my two bob's worth.

Re: Lokar petals with the cables

I appreciate it. I separated a rib working on something else, when I heal a little more I'm going to get back at it. I'm going to elongate the hole more and take more off of the cable.

Re: Lokar petals with the cables

I just started installing mine on sunday. Ordered my cable yesterday. I'm a little concerned that the arm inside the cab doesn't line up with the hole that you have to enlarge to 1/2". To me, it looks very offset. Maybe I'll know more once I get my new cable

Re: Lokar petals with the cables

The 1/2 inch enlargement scared me a little, not to mention buying a pricey drill bit just for one hole! As I said above, I elongated the hole and the offset problem is no longer! It lines up perfectly with the throttle lever connection and allows for fine tuning as far as lining up
