Giant 1960-1966 Wecker

I saw this the other day and snapped a couple pictures. I don't know anything about the drivetrain. I just know what I could figure out by what you see in the pictures.

Re: Giant 1960-1966 Wecker

It's about 15 miles north of where I live and located in Washington Missouri. I work in Washington so I drove by there when I had some time to kill before work.

Very cool rig! Looks like it has Rockwell top loader axles from a 5 ton Military truck.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I can get some more pics of it and maybe get a snap of the interior.

Thats pretty awesome. I don't like too far from Washington, might have to swing by this place next time I'm down that way for a closer look

Re: Giant 1960-1966 Wecker

Coming from St. Louis, go west on I-44 and get off on the Washington exit and go down highway 100 for a few miles and, just before you get into Washington, it will be on your left. It's been there for a long time but I just got around to taking a few pictures.

There used to be a big pickup wrecker in Union too that had duals on the front and back. Probably built by the same person who built this one.

Re: Giant 1960-1966 Wecker

I'm curious what engine it has in it. I guess it really doesn't matter thought with the torque multiplication by the low geared Rockwells. I'd imagine it's pretty loud too with the glasspacks that have downturns on them at the end of the cab. Maybe I'll stop by again when they are open and ask some questions.

Re: Giant 1960-1966 Wecker

I'm also curious on how they get into it, lol. Looks like you would need a step ladder !!

Some of my female passengers had trouble climbing into my '64 C-30 ??

That may be the one I was thinking of. Is it on the right (east?) side of 50 at a body shop or something?

Re: Giant 1960-1966 Wecker

I guess it's just a promo piece, since it has no sling. Would make a nice off road recovery vehicle. The high cable could come in handy winching out of ravines and such

Re: Giant 1960-1966 Wecker

few pics from when i tossed it together .

and the reproduced stickers . only change was we removed the pto section from the t-case sticker .

7.20 gear is as close as i come to exact with cover off and tryed to count that STUFFED diff in the front .

38" - 39" tall tires .

holmes wrecker unit and under lift . boom is a power in/out and twin line . i added a D-ring to the under lift to help with low line pulls and snatch block pulley . also made ice spades for the wheel lift L-arm spots for BITE . 366 gas big block just a good work truck and short for getting around the tight country roads we have around here .
