Washer pump

Ever have one of those moments when you wake up in the middle of night, sit straight up, and realize you've solved a problem that's been stymieing you? I had that last night, but I don't know if I'm right yet. I even emailed myself so I wouldn't forget.

Anyhow, as I near completion of my complete reassembly I've discovered my washer pump doesn't work. I siphoned water right up to it so it doesn't have to work to prime itself, but no luck.

I'm wondering now if the washer nozzles got plugged with media when I had them in the vibratory tumbler. That's my hope and my "big idea". Easy enough to check.

Before I do, though, a question: I can -hear- the pump operating. It does it's little thing. I've heard that if the 'cam' isn't aligned with the motor the pump won't work, but would I still hear it?

That's the question - I'm trying to rule out the pump cam as an issue based on the fact that I can hear something going on in there...

I really don't want to replace it. I have AC so it's a nightmare of packaging with the crazy air tubes, vents, radio, speaker, washer pump, instruments and everything packed in right there.

Sounds to me like you may need that little 9.00 washer pump gasket repair kit that is easy to install with the radio out of the truck.

Can you get to it with the radio out on an AC truck? That particular AC hose you don't want to remove as it runs all the way to the driver's side vent.

Unless you're trying to keep your truck bone-stock, one of the cheapest and most effective upgrades is an S-10 washer bottle with the integral pump. They work great and have a lot more pressure than the original pumps in our trucks. You can wire them into the original switch, too.

I've been intrigued by the S-10 part but do want to keep as close to 100% stock appearing as possible. Not that I've not made any concessions, but the windshield washer pump isn't like 3-point belts or disc brakes where I have a safety incentive (outside muddy roads, I guess).

Could it all be stuffed into a 1960s washer bottle and wired discretely, or would they be far too different in size, etc?

i just hooked up the universal pump from NAPA works great it is the size of a D Battery and cost around 25 bucks, toggle switch under the dash , a lot easier than trying to mess with the factory one

I do not know but its right there with the radio removed in a non A/C truck.

I have my entire front clip off right now and I can't find my pics that have the washer bottle from the S-10, but it really doesn't look out of place under the hood. I even used some stock mounting holes on the left fender.

I know you have some history with anti freeze bottles, you didn't use the windshield washer fluid jug in a pinch..didja? Just kidding.
