It will either be a 250 or a 292. Look at the fuel pump - if its in front of the pass side motor mount its a 250.

Re: Help Decoding a Inline 6 engine code??? 230 or 292
You might try reading this page, it wasn't great help on my 2 I-6 engines, but I did learn a little bit about them. Also reportedly the number cast into the block behind the dipstick is the date the block was cast. For instance the one in my '55, which I believe is a 230, has K 9 4 cast there. K is the 11th number of the alphabet so that means November. 9 means the 9th of the month and 4 probably means 1964 but it could mean 1974 but I don't think so since I think it is a 230.

Re: Help Decoding a Inline 6 engine code??? 230 or 292
As a couple of the guys said the location of the fuel pump is the quick positive indicator of a 292 compared to the smaller engines.
I can't find my 250 engine photos right now but this is the right side of the 292 destined for my 48. Note that the motor mount is between the fuel pump and distributor and the just over six inch height of the side covers. Also the 292 usually has a large bypass hose from the head to the fuel pump That you don't see on the smaller engines. Left side of 68 292. Here is a listing of many Chevrolet six cylinder casting numbers that is worth bookmarking http://www.adchevy.com/info/6-cylind...asting-numbers

Pretty sure that bi-pass hose goes to the water pump....
