I bought a blazer tank from GMC Paul and now want to use a marine filler mounted on the wheel tub. The problem is this : the tank has a 1 3/8 inlet and the marine filler is 1 1/2 (at the boat place they said that all fillers were this size). I bought 1 1/2" fuel pipe but this is (obviously !) loose at the tank end. I can tighten it down with a hose clamp, but is this alright ? What do other people do ?

The inlet for the Blazer Tank is 1 1/4", and you should buy 1 1/4" filler hose. Then take a hot air gun and warm the end and stretch it over the marine filler neck. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I can't do pictures. The marine filler is just like an ordinary gas filler with a screw in cap. I made a 1 1/2" hole in the top of the wheel tub, at the back (farthest away from the bedside) and used epoxy putty to build up the edge of the wheel tub to get a flat surface. The marine filler then gave me a stub end of tube to fit the pipe to. I must get a digital camers.

I wonder if this could work out the side of the bed. I want to do a blazer tank convert. Right now I have a fuel cell the PO put in and it will be of no use if I try to haul anything. (in fact they cut a big square hole in the bed floor and made some straps to hold it from the bottom) I thought about using a aircraft style filler but I wonder how tight it would be higher up the bed side. In about the same location as a 80's model truck but on the back half of the bed side. I am a little worried about putting a filler neck in the wheel well incase of a blow out and it shredding the filler hose.

I had some doubts about putting it in the wheel well, but it's right at the back, as far from the wheel as I could make it. I will keep it away from the wheel with a U bolt to hold it against the tub side. I hadn't thought about it until just now, but maybe I could fab up something from larger steel pipe cut lengthways to surround the filler pipe and give extra protection.

Have fun hacking up your bed cross sill during the install to make the tank fit.

That bit of info seemes to aways get left out.

Just a be prepared post. It will make you stronger and more prepared when you have to do the tanks install.

i had problems with my poly tank...is yours poly??
i used 3/4" copper that if in the tank then once it got to the marine fill i use adapters to make it a 1.5" then put a short piece of gas pipe over it to seal the deal.. my filler is just on the insde of the bed coming through the floor next too the side...there are pics at my web site if they will help.

i had just 1.5" pipe all the way from the filler to a exhaust 90 and the more stuff to the tank that had a 1.25 - 1.5 thing over it...it didn't work to good because it just funnled down and stoped...burped and spilled over...it took forever to fill.

now i fill at full speed and no leaks or brups.

my mom and dad think i should patent it and sell it..cause there are no "kits" to make these things worth using

my poly tank s**cks. I cant keep it from leaking around the lock ring. It lets water in and gas out. I want a steel tank!

Mine is a steel tank, I liked the idea of poly, but had heard bad things about the fit. I looked at the fuel cells from Summit, but didn't want to fill through the bed floor. The arrangement that I have seems like it should work BUT I can't find 1 1/4" filler hose. the smallest that the parts stores do is 1 1/2. It would have been nice to have had a fuel cell made, but much more expensive.

I will keep it away from the wheel with a U bolt to hold it against the tub side.
