Question about k20 4x4
Thinking of buying a 86 sierra k20 today but have a question. The particular vehicle has 6 lugs and i thought 3/4 ton had 8 lugs.

Re: Question about k20 4x4
Should have 8 lugs so either the running gear is 1/2 ton with fenders from a 3/4 ton or its a 3/4 ton with swapped out axles.

Re: Question about k20 4x4
Thanks that's what i was thinking. Could this pose a problem in titling the truck as it is going from one state to another.

Re: Question about k20 4x4
It really shouldn't matter when it comes to titling the truck.
Generally most state DMV go off the VIN for identifying the model. Swapped axles or fender badges will have no bearing on that. |

Re: Question about k20 4x4
Agree about the 6 lug / 8 lug thoughts with possible swapped fenders or axles but if want to know for sure look at the VIN on the cab and make sure it matches the title VIN. Not sure about the square body trucks but for the 67-72 bodies I am more familiar with the General stamped a partial matching VIN on the LH front frame portion near the steering gear box. Pretty sure will have to scrape away some dirt, grime and crud to find it. May or may not be the same for square body trucks. If it is there and partial matches the title VIN at least you will know what the truck was when it left the factory. Good luck and last thing, no clear title in seller's name, no buy. Opens up too big a can of worms down the road.

Re: Question about k20 4x4
Probably a smart idea, it sounds like the seller knew he was trying to pull a fast one and got caught.

Re: Question about k20 4x4
the VIN should tell you whether it was a 3/4 or 1/2 ton frame etc,,,, im betting it was a lot easier to change badging than it is to change axels. These days tho its hard to find an unmolested truck
