Bought a '71 Cheyenne, look what's inside!

Picked this one up today. 95K miles, runs and drives great. Fairly rusty in the usual places, but I can fix it. Big surprise was the seat. I had not seen any pics of the interior before today. Smells awful inside. Pretty sure some kind of critter lived in it for awhile. What do you think.

One of the PO's cut the doors and panel under rear window for speakers. Probably when the Seat was installed. Has a new fuel tank, and came with rocker panels. I will probably look for a bench seat to refurb. Are the roof lights avaiable?

Re: Bought a '71 Cheyenne, look what's inside!

Probably bring it back to stock appearance. I think having the roof lights makes that decision. Maybe find some rally wheels at some point. The A/C compressor is gone, but the other components appear to be there. I think first thing is to tear out the heater box and find the source of the smell.

Nice looking truck!, love the color combo, and the metallic/glitter steering wheel, you better keep that in there!, Looks to be an easy cleanup to a daily driver. Good luck and congrats

Nice truck with some great options. Marker lamps should be available, they probably just need new lenses.

Enjoy the new ride!

Re: Bought a '71 Cheyenne, look what's inside!

I think the steering wheel is about 10" dia, good thing it has power steering. Drove it an hour home in the rain. All the lights except one roof light work, didn't see in water leaks while driving. Seems odd to not have power brakes with the other options.(heavy springs front and rear). Needs heater blower switch, has a toggle mounted under the dash. PO went through the brakes and has a reman Qjet. Stumbles a little off the line but then really runs well. It has headers on it and I am not a fan, bunch of exhaust leaks. Now the fun begins finding parts and pieces. I'm sure the neighbors are all real happy! He got another one!

The marker lights were still available a few months ago. If not they come up on the parts board periodically. Try this link.

Re: Bought a '71 Cheyenne, look what's inside!

I'll post a pic of the lights tomorrow. Apparently(from what I've seen) the lights were a $27 option? Seems low considering it takes a different roof skin.

There's a recent thread on factory cab lights, one member posted of a site that had a complete set for $38?, lenses, pads, and light and wire

Re: Bought a '71 Cheyenne, look what's inside!

Here are a couple pics of the roof marker lights. Found several sites that sell the lenses and fixtures. Prices vary.

Guy up the street wants my steering wheel for his Rat Rod. Think I'll keep on the wall.

Re: Bought a '71 Cheyenne, look what's inside!

An old friend put what I believe to be the same seat into his 71 Suburban. He was quite proud of the find too.

I think those are the real deal. Here is a set of Dodge buckets that I bought and put in my Chevy Panel Truck. The Dodge seats have more contour to them and taper in a little at the top.

Re: Bought a '71 Cheyenne, look what's inside!

Great score. The factory cab marker-lights are sweet. Those seats are awesome, and even an A/C cab!

My truck had the same thing going on with the stinky (mouse pee) interior. I removed the seat (and rubber floor mat) as well as the fuel tank. Vacuumed up all of the mouse turds, then used a bucket of hot soapy water (Dawn Dish Soap) with about 1/8 cup of bleach mixed in. Everything from the door panels on down got sponged down then sprayed off with the garden hose, and the smell is gone! Little did I know that removing the fuel tank was essential because there was quite a bit of mouse droppings back behind it!

One question... Does anybody know anything about the rear bumper on this truck? Mine came with the exact same bumper.

The seats are fixable. It's a good catch anyway.

So any plans for the buddy buckets?

Unfortunately, unless those will be super cheap, I'd have to hold off. I'd like a set but only to keep for if/when I buy another truck.
