Question about carpet/flooring

What kind of carpet do you have in your cab? I'm looking at getting carpet for the passenger area on my 68 T-all and I don't know what all these carpet styles are: Plush cut, ultra plush cut, neon cut, 80-20 loop and nylon loop?
What's the difference?

The 80/20 loop is correct for the vintage trucks of the GM era. I believe the 80/20 blend is suppose to be a little upgrade than the 100 percent nylon loop. I'm not sure about IH but I imagine is the same. I believe the others are a little more plush if that is the right word.
Someone may correct me but that is what I found when I investigated.

Yep, and that's the same carpet rock auto sells much cheaper. Just installed in my 68. Same carpet. Acc w/backing. $115 @ rock auto, 247 elsewhere.

ACC builds your carpet when you order it ,So when it shows up at your house take it out of the box and lay it flat to avoid box wrinkles ,Don't store it in the box . ACC is a wholesale company the prices they list are suggested retail all their dealers sell them cheaper ,

Mass Back vs. Polyethylene Back

What type of backing does the carpet have?

All custom molded carpets on our website are priced to be made with Poly Back carpeting. This is the same carpet backing that is offered by all discount auto carpet retailers in the aftermarket industry. Poly Back carpet is a more economical option and is the most common option for aftermarket carpet. Stock Interiors also offers a Mass Back upgrade for most carpets, which will provide a heavier, more rigid backing. Please note that the type of backing you chose does not affect the quality of the carpet, nor does it affect the way that the carpet will fit your car.

What is Mass Backing?

Our Mass Back is made of 40mil thick Ethylene vinyl acetate which gives the carpet a dense rubber backing to reduce heat and noise within your vehicle. The Mass Back is aplpied to the back of the carpet and then molded to the correct shape. This Mass Back carpet more closely duplicates the original factory materials for many later model OEM carpets. Because this is an upgraded product, there is a surcharge for this backing, as well as additional shipping costs. In most cases jute padding will be included with the carpet, and may or may not be attached to the bottom of the carpet made with Mass Back, depending on the application. Most items listed will specify these details, or you can contact us for more information.

What is Poly Backing?

Our Poly Back carpet, also known as polyethylene backing is an economical replacement option, with a jute padding bonded to the bottom for comfort. The Poly Back carpet is made with the same quality carpet fibers, but will have a 1/16th inch plastic, more flexible backing than the Mass Backing. Please note that the fit of the Poly back carpet is the same as the mass back carpet.

If you are searching for a replacement carpet with the rigid rubber backing, then be careful when searching on other websites. Most websites make claims of using "OEM" materials, but most do not offer a Mass Back option. Our Mass Back upgrade will give you the quality and satisfaction that you are looking for!

I ordered my ACC with mass backing from rock auto, $160 I think? Jute padding was also glued on. Without mass backing was 115 I believe. Haven't installed yet but appears high quality. Also arrived 4 days earlier then quoted.

Lots of things have happened since I made my first post about this a year ago. I decided to get my seats upholsetered and they look fantastic. I had to park my T-all in the carport over the winter but now its getting closer to springtime, I'm going to get my carpet in. If I get carpet with the back masking, will I still have to get something else for heat and sound buffer? If so, what else?

Ordering my new carpet this week from Stockinteriors.com. Since I'm building more of a Pro-touring C10, I wanted to get away from the factory loop carpeting. Ordering the Extra Plush Matt Backed carpet with additional jute and insulation. Looking for a more modern look and a quieter ride.

Here is something to consider: color.

Why? ...a lot of guys (including myself) are drawn to the color that best matches the truck and the general interior....looks great.
(Now, that said my truck is a '72 Highlander and they all got a black carpet, regardless of truck or interior colors...and this is a good thing in a way.....but....)

Now, if you get a color carpet (not black) you will immediately notice any spills (ie: coffee, pop or?) or dirt or grease on it.
If you go with black, this will be a lot less noticeable....

A lot of guys use their trucks only for careful, occasional showing only...and next to zero daily utility use...so its fine if you have that kind of time/attention to keep the carpet stain free.
If you use your truck for around town a bit, maybe have a coffee while you drive....you will have to get a cleaning strategy together.

Yes and yes. Depending on what exactly you require in the end though. The heat is a problem all the way up the firewall and enough of a factor to require a full treatment in addition to any carpeting+backing IMO. Any good sound abatement strategy is going to include several well placed panel pieces like dynamat or similar underneath that.

I called Stock Interiors and explained to them that I'm wanting to lay down a layer of sound barrier, then heat barrier, then 80/20 carpet with mass backing. They suggested not to do all 3 because it wouldn't lay down or fit properly. So, which one(s) do I exclude?

I think this is what I've been looking for, it does both, sound and heat barrier. What do you all think, is this what you would use?

I went with the standard 80/20 poly backing from StockInteriors. I figured the layer of Summit heat/sound deadening mat would provide the function of the mass backing layer. Maybe I should have gone with both? Oh well, it's just a farm truck (which is what we've been saying a lot lately). StockInteriors has the turquoise color (#508) I wanted that goes with the metallic light green/aqua cab and turquoise seat belts.

Light green (#538) was too green for me, making turquoise the winner. I suggest to anyone looking at installing a color other than black request samples.

I was just getting ready to order my carpet but I'm thinking of changing from 80/20 loop to plush cut pile. Would the plush pile be harder to install? I'm thinking it would look better though.

I went with ultra plush from ACC and regret it. It's high quality, nothing wrong with it, I just don't like how it feels. I'll keep it until I have to remove the carpet anyways for a high-hump conversion.

I did 2x layers of dynamat, then a layer of dynapad, then carpet without mass backing.

Just as easy to install, the good thing about the cut pile carpet is you don't have to worry about Running the carpet if you use a drill or screw driver.
