Has anyone used Tin Works LS engine mounts

Here is a link to the ebay ad for the frame mounts:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F293151181244

Does anyone have any experience with them?

Also, I will need an efi tank. I have seen mention of using a boyd welding tank mounted under the bed. That would probably be my single largest investment. Thoughts?

A little back story: I have spent the last couple of years building a house and can finally get back to my hobby. I have done a few trucks (which were sold) from the ground up but they were all conventional sbc/ bbc or 6 cyl trucks. I have decided to get on the LS “bandwagon” with the next build, as I have an LS1 out of an 02 Trans Am that i inherited when my brother passed away in 2016. It also has a 4L60e, which i am not a fan of, but it works. I might upgrade to a 4L80e or go to a T56 later, but I need to keep this low buck.

I have a 70 swb chassis that I swapped a complete 72 crossmember and rear axle under (for disc brakes and 5 lug). To give you an idea of my “budget”, i drug the 70 out of a pasture of a high school friend who needed to clean up. The body was rusted beyond recognition (Texas gulf coast). I gave him $200 for it. It had a nice tailgate that someone swapped on that I sold for $100. I gave a friend the 6 cyl and 3ott in exchange for him stripping the old body off, I sold the six lug drum brake stuff for $100, so I have $0 in the swb chassis. The 5 lug stuff came off a 72 parts truck i bought for $500. I sold the lwb bed for $250 and cab for $250. (So also a wash!) I still have the bare lwb frame if anyone needs one. I want to get the mechanicals out of the way then swap the clean cab and front clip I have off 70 3/4 ton and swb stepside bed i picked up a few years ago for $60 (no not a typo, $60, not $600. I was at the New Braunfels swap meet a few years ago and that is all the seller was asking for it.)

The truck that will be donating the cab and front clip has a 400/400, but it is tired and uses oil, and since I have the LS anyway...

Re: Has anyone used Tin Works LS engine mounts

The LS1 is currently sitting in a 71 Le Mans sport convertible. The trouble is, its a basket case. My brother was building judge clone when he passed away. It needs extemsive body work as well as complete interior. I am also not a fan of the way he tried to integrate the modern dash and controls into the le mans, or his attempt at a smooth firewall (weld sheet metal over stock firewall).

Re: Has anyone used Tin Works LS engine mounts

It occurred to me to check the engine mounts that are already in the engine. I have some frame stands off a 73-87 c10 as well as a set of 72 bbc stands and clams. Im sure I cane make something work with one or the other.

As for fuel tank/ pump, I have a suburban tank from a truck i parted out. I wonder if i could buy a sender for it for an 87 (which had efi) and install a stock later model (or if necessay, aftermarket) higher pressure pump (?)

Re: Has anyone used Tin Works LS engine mounts

Coming from someone who just installed a fuel tank, I highly recommend the Boyd tank. I just installed a Tanks Inc universal 16 gal and it was a pain - I had to assemble and install the pump and sender which wasn't a huge deal but mounting it was a hassle. I went through all that trouble to save $300 which sounded like a lot at the time, but not after I went through the hassle. The Boyd tank comes pre-assembled and has the nice mounting tabs. No frame trimming required. The Aeromotive 340 pump will be plenty unless you plan on making more than 600HP. Also get it with the rollover vent, mounting kit, and sender.

If you are handy with a welder, check out the build threads from member ls1nova71
He made his own mount adapters using the stock 5.3/6.0 mounts. That’s the route I’m going.

Re: Has anyone used Tin Works LS engine mounts

I found a pair of 73+ stands from a truck I parted and used them with new motor mounts and these brackets:
