I need a 69" speedo cable for a '68 C20 manual 4sp. Mine is Starting to make the gauge go crazy jumping around.
Found this one at NPD, any other suppliers carry the heavy speedo cable like the original?

Did you pull the whole thing out, slide the inner cable out and clean both parts good and lube it? That's probably all it needs.

Yes,, I pulled the whole cable out, It a pretty beefy outer cable compared to most aftermarket.
Is the inner cable completely removable? Mine doesn't seem to want to come out and it doesn't spin easy.

Spray WD 40 down the inner cable until it drips out the other end, and let it soak.

Pull the inner cable out from the top....

Check the outer cable for any rub or burned up areas
Check the inner cable for any damaged areas

If either is damaged, replace the cable assembly.

If both inner and outer cable sections are in good condition, proceed to next step

Spray WD-40 down the cable outer until it runs out the bottom end...let it drip dry....

Lube the inner cable with a light smear of light grease and reinsert inner cable from top....

Connect transmission end of cable first, then connect speedo end...

Road test...

I agree with everything Aussie says except the WD40. Unless it is the WD40 penetrating oil. Otherwise I would use a penetrating oil like Kroil, PB blaster, or ZEP45.

OK, Got the inner speedo cable out, cleaned the housing after soaking overnight.
Lots of gunk came out of that housing.. No wonder it was having trouble spinning.
Ordered some special graphite speedo cable lube, should be here Monday.
