AAW Front Light Harness w/SI conversion

Just projecting out here for my truck and had a question. Has anyone used the AAW (American Auto Wire) Front Light Harness (PN 22220DI) for their truck with the SI alternator conversion? Asking as in the couple of months my fenders have been off and in the shed, a friendly neighborhood critter chewed through a few spots and it had issues in others. It will need to be replaced. I thought since I am at it, this harness says (and barely more than this) that it is a replacement harness to go to the 12SI style alternators. I figured it's as good as time as any to change the alternator to the internally regulated one and this looks like it does it without resistors or other wiring. Here is the link for it and if you have any info or actually used it, let me know.

Re: AAW Front Light Harness w/SI conversion

I can't help you with that kit exactly, but I just finished installing the AAW Classic Update Kit total rewire. Everything is well labelled and colored, plus the directions are straightforward. Cleans up the wiring nicely in the engine bay, especially getting rid of the voltage regulator. And I'm electrically challenged, wiring diagrams look like chinese characters, so if I can do it anyone can.

I can't tell from the picture of the front light harness from your aaw link, but are you sure that includes the alternator wiring? Reason I ask is the complete kit has a Front Light Kit, Engine Kit, & Alternator and Main Power Kit, all of which rewire the truck from the firewall forward. You may want to call them to find out exactly what is in the kit you're looking at. Although when I tried calling aaw a couple weeks ago the phone just kept ringing, nobody there due to this Corona Virus BS.

Bottom line is if the kit includes what you need it's a very nice upgrade.

Re: AAW Front Light Harness w/SI conversion

I am putting the updated harness in my 72 in a few weeks
I did this upgrade to my original 68 harness a long time ago reworking the stock harness

More I look at 50 year old wiring more I get rid of it and going new on my dads truck after a I had a small electrical fire on my 69 on a long road trip

I have not looked yet at the alt plug as I am going to use the 88 98 belt setup on my truck and use the alt from the donor truck

The harness looks very well made
I suggest replace the rest of the harness too be a shame to lose your baby to a worn out wire shorting out

Re: AAW Front Light Harness w/SI conversion

AAW is not answering phones or emails right now with this going on unfortunately.

The Front Light Harness handles the headlights and alternator wiring (as well as the gauges) from the firewall forward. The Engine Harness handles the starting duties.

I'd like to do a complete harness (and although its cheaper at one time) I need this section to get mine running once I have the cowl rust fixed. If I go this route I will change out the under dash/fuse box section in short order too. This would just get me up and running and able to move it under its own power in/out of garage and driveway while working on it. I may just save and order a complete kit, but since I was going to go internally, this looked like a good option with pretty factory looking harness. Although if this crap keeps up with lockdown, our hazard pay will cover the cost of the new harness all at once.

Re: AAW Front Light Harness w/SI conversion

Have you tried M&H wiring? Equal quality and they may be open for business.
Have you read any of the Mad Electrical tech articles comparing 12SI alternators with other new style alternators?
