Angry I Have A Busted Head!!

The 72 Chevy with the 9 foot step bed I towed home several months ago didn't run because of a broken bolt in the thermostadt, and I was told it needed a head gasket.

I finally got around to pulling the head off it today, only to find a deep crack between #2 and #3. I called around and found a rebuilt head for $200 at a machine shop. I should be able to look at it tomarrow afternoon.

I do have a question. Is a 72, 250ci head an integrated manifold type? Both manifolds mount to the driver side of the head and has keeper type bolt and fastener system holding both to the head.

i thought the integrated head design wasnt until the 1980's?

also if you arent in a hurry, you could probably find one someone swapped out of their truck for less than $200. i have seen people give away free 250's and 292's before.

No, it should not be an integral head.

Simply put, if you can unbolt the intake/ exhaust manifolds from the head, it's not an integral.

I think I understand. The integral head had the manifolds built in to the head itself?

yes, exactly. Head and intake manifold are cast 1 piece together.

Yours is the good one.

port that puppy, put on a good valve job, new springs and retainers, bump up the bump stick a little, throw on a clifford intake with a 550-600 cfm 4BBl and some thorley tri-y headers.

Thanks, but it looks like it will be a pita to reassemble. I think some of the ears are broke from the manifolds too

The exhaust manifold. I still have to blast it then coat it with hi-temp coating. Then all new studs and hardware. After that, it's off to the parts board or ebay. Need money to finish the big block swap.
