the junkyard is where I am going to look, the best one is the one (or 2) that fits.

Gmc Paul makes a kit specifically for our trucks, and I think Wes does too. For my little 6, I bought one from JCW for about $70 that does the job. I didnt feel like going to the junkyrd in early spring when I switched. I would go that route if I was to do it again,in the summer!

I bought my flex-a-lite black magic fan from summit racing, but there's a similar one being sold on ebay for considerably less that looks the same and has the same specs...

Says it's for a mustang, but it's a universal and you can make it work by fabbing your own brackets if the ones in the kit won't work....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2463941074

I just ordered one for a hemi-powered 53 Ferd stepside that my father-in-law is building, so I'll be able to report on how it compares to the more expensive flex-a-lite unit in a few days...

Yes it works with a long water pump. The space needed between the radiator and the water pump is 4 1/2". WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Wes,

The shroud seems to block a large portion of the radiator. Will that prevent the flow at the higher speeds through the portions of the radiator that do not have a fan directly on them?

Also will this set up fit on an '81 C30 with 454?

thanks,
steve

Welcome to the board Steve. It actually improves the air flow by forming a venturi forcing air over the coils at a higher rate of flow, thereby increasing the cooling capacity of the radiator.

Wes can you mount those on the outside of the Rad? or does it have to be on the motor side of the Rad?

Thanks for the welcome! I was more wondering at higher speeds when the fan is not active and the air speed comeds from the movement of the truck. The original shroud is not blocking any part of the radiator, but this one looks like it does.

The shrouds can not be mounted from the front. I just don't have it designed that way. The core support, and grill support would get in the way. gr8scott51, is correct about the better cooling. As for blocking air, it doesn't block air, because it is on the back (engine side) of the radiator. I have been running this shroud assembly on my BB Blazer for over 4 years now, and that's pulling my 5000 lb boat behind it also. I haven't even came close to running hot with them.
