Soooo... a co-worker of mine is a wood hobby/carpenter dude. Made a trade with him. He wanted a fany post for his mailbox, and I want truck boards. Fullfilled my end of the deal... back to him as soon as I decide on what type of wood for the bed. Felt a bit rusty gettin back into the artsy stuff... he was happy with it.

As for truck stuff... ran a fuel filler line to re-located tank. Will incorporate filler into driver's side wheel tub I think. New wheel tubs, outer window seals, metal bed strips and bolt kit enroute. 3" stainless flowmaster exhaust and super 10 series mufflers arrived. After numerous burns.... its tacked up with an "H" pipe in place, and welding it home as we speak.

Thanks brother..It is the U-fit kit. 3" stainless. Worked great for me. I ran it fairly simple compared to most though. Straight back (kinda)...with an H pipe and out the sides. Didnt snake mine up through the crossmember etc.

Looks Good!

Thanks!... Not lookin good for me this year. Honestly.. I would only be lookin for Nova parts anyways. Lol. This build should be wrappin up shortly. Ordered some parts from Lakkers in winnipeg. Bed strips, bolt kit, window felts and new tubs. Figure out what type of bed wood I'm gonna use and she's go time. And the driveshaft crap as well. 1 piece or 2. Dunno. Ran a one piece on a '72 gmc lwb years ago... No issue. Guys tellin me now not to do it. (Driveline shop) experience/opinions on driveshaft and what type of bed wood welcome here brothers. Thanks again guys.

jlsanborn 03-29-2015 09:51 AM

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build

I've been planning a one-piece even before my SWB conversion. I looked around quite a bit on the site and found several people that had done it without issue.

I dunno if I'll go with anything exotic for bed wood. I might even paint mine vs. natural look just for durability. They sure look great new but they look just as awful when the finish fails. Tough call.

Re: Project NiteMare-1970 C10 LWB build

The th400 i installed has a fixed rear yoke. So i'd have to have a shaft built with an integral slip joint of some sort. Morons at local scrapyard move everything with a fork lift. Cant find a straight driveshaft out of the 500+ vehicles out there.

Exact same story here. I've quit looking underneath, just look in the back of truck beds.

Here we go with the "beer, update, starin at it" thing again. Yanked my valve covers off to polish pre-fire up. Got a look at my scorpion rocker arms that were put on decades ago. Still there. Ordered a one piece/2 piece driveshaft. Pick it up next week. Ground out hot rivets and punched out bracket for the old carrier bearing. Picked up[my new exterior window felts, wheel tubs (whick I promptly cut up), stainless bolt kit and bed strips.

Robbed a fuel filler assembly off my 1950 parts truck from a previous build, shoved it through the left tub, and sealed it up. I like these old set ups. The vent line ties into an outer tube/overflow for the filler tube. Will work well for what I want.

I bought un-polished stainless bolts. Then I polished them on my ceramic wheel. As well as the zinc plated bed strips. Sprayed with clear after polishing. (as we speak)

So... couple updates. Big ones. Driveshaft done and installed. And it runs and drives too. Run up went good for the most part. (shy of not plugging in distributor, vaccum advance, and loose alternator connection) Put her to bed after run-up to let cool down over night. I'll set timing and carb better today.

Hahah... No Nova yet. Took wifey for a short burn down the lane. It was chuckin stones at the back of the cab. (No rear tubs in yet). Wood kit enroute from Dave at Lakkers midCanada parts in Winnipeg. Great guy. Moved her out of the shop to clean up. Fired right up. Have to mess with carb/timing yet. No "sparkles" in oil on dipstick. Looks like my cam bearings survived. This engine was assembled 13 years ago and never fired. Primed occasionally on the stand. I was watchin oil pressure pretty close on run-up needless to say.
