Re: How to swap old Alternator to this new one

got it wired up today and it's running great. Didn't know if I had the idiot light or if I needed the resistor. Checked to make sure there was a bulb in the socket and started her up.

Volt Gauge said it was at 12 volts, plugged the alt in and the idle went up and it went to 14 gauge.

Thanks to all you guys that helped and to Tug for the ttt!!!!

If you have a gauge you NEED a resistor our you risk blowing out the diode in the alt (its not made to take a full 12V). Also you need a much heavier gauge wire run from the alt output post (which is seperate from the plug) to the battery than the wiring in the truck.
You are trying to insist on hooking up to stock wiring and thats not the way to go. I explained how to wire it in PM before but suit yourself.

I have a light, not a gauge

I have an aftermarket gauge that I put it, that's what I was reading the volts off of.
