So you guys are putting this on the positive side of the battery? When I thought about it, I was looking at the ground cable, but maybe that's because I run things off a fuse block already on the battery..

And what ones have the extra power lead?

You could run the switch off the negative battery but you would not be able to run a bypass to anything because the ground is common to all circuits and as soon as you turned the key all circuits would be activated. The first time you forgot to turn on the switch and you hit the key to start the engine you'd fry that little wire.
You don't need an extra terminal just run your wire from the battery cable side of the switch to whatever you want to be powered all the time.

That is what I did on mine. The ones with an extra terminal cost more and unless you have a crap load of things you run strait off of your battery there is no need for it. Save the money and run your alarm and stereo memory off the battery side of the switch as VetteVet said.

I have an extra fuse block, that's the issue. I'd have to go look at my truck and remember how everything gets power again.

Heres a question.

Can i just hook the switch directly to the starter's "S" post so i can manage its function and also keep the radios and everything else intact??

Well....after reading this thread and doing a lot of Googling I ended up purchasing the Watson's PressTech TM Touch Pad Battery Disconnect. This way I can install the "Touch Pad" inside the cab someplace out of sight. This has been a great thread. Thanks guys for all the input.

so i was talking to a good friend of mine and he suggested that maybe we also install a battery tender permanently, just under the battery, 5amp one that is water proof. This would be for long winter storage and such, i thought it sounds like a good idea.

Re: Master Battery Disconnect Switch Placement

I have a battery shut off on my 71 but it's on the negative cable. I have been seeing my tach and lights deeming at night since I installed it. I have been thinking about a upgraded alternator and a capacitor for the amp I run.
I went by my local Stereo Store yesterday and he said remove the cut off and see what happens.
This is my goal for the day.
