Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I remembered more.I had a`63 Riviera with a 455 dual quad/powerglide drivetrain. One day while raining,I hit US40 and pushed the go pedal to the floor. It`s like hitting the "on" button. One minute you`re at a light, next thing you`re going over 100 listening to the speedminder buzzing it`s butt off.I hit it this day in the rain, both wipers swipe center-outward,and before I knew it,it was like the wipers weren`t on.Just about then I see somethoing fly by both side windows.I pull over and both wipers ripped off. They had lifted off the windshield then tore of at the bases.Man,that care flew,so did the wipers.

Then,there was my bike:

I was going up a two lane, heard and felt a loud bang! Two days later discovered it was the cable that held the spare tire snug under the bed of my S-10 had broke. HOPE nobody was behind me...no idea where the spare went!

I had a 96 s10 that i was pulling a 16ft trailer with my brothers car on it when my spare tire let go from under my bed then under the trailer then out the back onto the side of the road in the middle of memphis. By the time i got turned around and back to the spot it came off it was gone. Now were talking 5 min max!!! Brand new spare had never been used either!! Made me mad!!!

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I lost a driveshaft out of my 82 swb at about 95 mph on the highway one time. It scared the hell out of me ,as it came out very violently. Ended up costing me a new transmission since the bellhousing shattered, new exhaust since it was totally wasted, and a new driveshaft. I always make sure I have good U-joints in everything I own ,and I don't drive that fast anymore. Luckily nobody was behind me ,and luckily I didn't wreck.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

It was about 2 years ago I was driving a 1995 Mack CH613 with a 30 foot rollback heading for the Chesapeake bay bridge about 4AM (only 2 exits from it). I was fully loaded (about 65,000 pounds) and trying to get done early and start the weekend. I was doin about 65 and heard something hit the front fenderwell, no big deal, must have been somethin in the road, then it happened again. After the 3rd time of something making a noise I decieded to pull over and check the truck when I relized no steering. I was able to get it slowed down and into an exxon station when I found 1 U bolt and all the shims GONE that hold the front axle to the leaf springs. Needless to say I told the mechanic to replace ALL of the bolts in the front suspension.

Years ago, I lost a chain saw thru the passneger floor of a 1976 Jeep CJ5 (saw wasnt running ) Just that rusty!!
And the spare tire on my 73 c/10 came out from under the truck while I was running about 70mph on I20. I thought somebody hit me in the arse, but then the tire passed me in the left lane, going to be the bank and went DEEP INTO THE WOODS........Not a soul behind me on the road..Scared the life out of me!!!

I've had things fly out of the back of my truck... but I don't think anything has ever fallen off any of them.

My dad lost a bed cap for his Toyota truck on the interstate back in the day

I had a memory

I was hauling in my junk parts truck 86 Toyota for scrap for the one I had just rebuilt. I swapped hoods and didn't bolt the junk hood back on the truck. I did latch it, but I guess with the bolts out it wiggled enough with the wind to pop/bust the latch and I saw it go flying in the rearview. VERY lucky no one was behind me!

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I stopped for a comfort break in a forest on my way home once in my old 75 Triumph Spitfire, as normal the roof was down so I jumped over the door and slid down in the seat grabbing the steering wheel as I went only to have it come off in my hand and all the bolts that held it to the hub go flying everywhere (mostly out into all the dead leaves on the floor outside the car). I eventually managed to round up two or three of them and get it secure enough to drive the rest of the way home.

Lippy,at least you where parked,eh?

Just remembered another...
In my`72 K/20 Cheyenne Super.I had been up in the mountains seeing friends and had run it hard alot that day,on & off road.On the way back, very late at night,I pounded across this bridge down a big valley and that`s when it happened. My auxilary tank`s front bolts pulled through the rotted wood bedfloor.Fortunately the gas in it was so old it wasn`t exactly flammable.I heard a thump then immediately saw sparks flying behind me.I had a heck of a time,3:30 am trying to re-mount or remove that thing.I gave up and decided to take the shoulder to the next exit just creeping along very very slowly with the front edge just scraping along. It must have caught on something because the truck took a hop,so I stopped. There it was lying free,so I grabbed it up,tossed it in the bed,and got my tired butt on home. The next morning it really hit me how lucky I was and that was the day I parked it until a restoration was done.

Lost the back U-joint on a 66 Mustang back when. Made a he!!uva racket as it bounced between the highway and the floorpan. Kinda scary for a 17 year old.

The green truck here sheared a lock ring and backed off the retaining nut on the DS axle. I came around a corner in town and could see the tire in the outside mirror. The wife said that's the palest she's ever seen me. Had to put a jack under it to wait for the tow because the weight was riding on the axle itself.

I used to work at a BMW dealership just off I-25. One day A dual axle trailer was going down the freeway and Apparantly the hub seperated and the tire, along with the drum and half the hub assy. went rolling down the hill and smashed into a brand new Z4 that I had just parked in the oudoor patio area. The tire smashed the door all the way to the center console and demolishing the driver seat. I`ll never forget that day! We never did find the owner of the trailer to give him his tire back

I was going down the highway around 70mph and came across a retread so I centered over it. It clunked the bottom of my truck. The car behind me swerved. I giggled all the way home thinking about the car behind be explaining to his insurance company that a nutz sack flew up and broke his windshield. When I got home my truck nutz were missing.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I had my drivers rear wheel come off going about 35 mph. The wheel passed me as I sat in the middle of the road. The guy behind me stopped and said "Ill go get yer tire". It traveled over an 1/8 of a mile and finally stopped after it ran through a ditch and bounced down a railroad track. I walked back up the road and found three lug nuts. Very embarassing since I was headed to a car show that day.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

We were pulling my truck home with a tow strap after I bought it. (Not Safe) but we didn't have far to go. I watched the crome gas cap come off, and roll under the guardrail. I couldn't stop as I was just steering , so that was that. Luckily while cleaning it up , I found the original under the seat.

My dad and me were once going to work when we heard this loud noise come from the back! We looked back and seen our ladder flying off the truck and landing in the middle of the highway! We got lucky that there was no car behind us!

When I first bought my truck i didnt realize how much rust was on the battery tray. I was driving down the road and heard something hit the ground and my truck shut off. Opened the hood to see my battery hanging by the cables.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I was building a 70 cadillac chop top one time and I had it towed to a muffler shop to get a custom duel exhaust put on. The AAA driver loaded the car on a flatbed backwards. I chopped the top off of the car by this time, so the car was a complete convertible.

So the tow truck gets on the freeway and I am following in my little truck behind. We get going about 60 miles an hour and the windshield lifts off of the car, into the air about 15 feet and slams onto the pavement directly in front of me. I had to pull a jimmie johnson and swerve like no other to dodge all of the glass that was flying in every direction.

I don't think the tow truck driver ever noticed and I never told him either just in case.

I forgot to glue my new (used) windshield in the body. I should have just taken it off, but I am a space cadet sometimes.:uhmk:
