anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I ask because running down the freeway last night my passenger side mirror fell out of the frame. Think the guy next to me is going to have 7 years bad luck

The only good thing is my son and I still are laughing about it.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

i had a 49 dodge truck. was taking 2 friends for a drive at night years ago. They wanted to ride in the wood bed.... I heard 5 loud bangs then off went the rear left wheel. The tire went screaming about 100 yds into the woods. The truck went sharp left and then came to a grinding halt after bout 30 yds. Police said that I was really lucky that it happened at night.

I had a lot of rust falling off my first truck all the time She was so rusty, that one day I swear the sill plate was there when i got in it. By the time I got to where I was going it was gone

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I was headed home just this past week after working 12 hrs. on nightshift and saw a light out of the corner of my eye that I had never noticed before. It was bouncing around under the truck. I got home to see what it was and my driving lights had popped out of the socket and hanging down.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Nothing serious yet, just floormats that I forgot to take off of the roof after vacuuming. I lost the exhaust tip off of my Datsun Z car a couple of times before buying a clamp to hold it in place. At least I could see where it was headed in the rearview mirror.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

about 10 years ago i was riding with my dad in his 71 k10 (that i now own) on the interstate, i didnt see it happening but i remeber him swearin about it and getting real mad when the glass from the mirror on the driver door fell off, and it is finaly getting replaced
about 3 weeks ago me and a friend went to pick up a 77 ford to use as parts on his 78 and when we finally got it running we drove it 2.5 miles to the gas station and back to his house and the whole time i was watching smoldering chunks of rust bouncing down the road behind me, and he was dodging some of the bigger chunks with the other truck

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

Not a truck, but....I was going out enjoying my self once in my old vega 327 with little monza rear end once, (years ago).

Got a great hook up to the rear end when all of a sudden both rear wheels past me UGGGG. (sheared the four bolts off both sides all at once).

Totaly wrecked the car. Boy did I love that little GT.

None the less My uncle pretty much stole it from me, installed the motor in his 80s 1/2 ton and still drives it everywhere.

That sure was a fun car.

Never could afford the rear end I needed for that thing. Never could keep spider gears, just a poor kid at the time.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I have the tripod mirrors on my GMC, and one time, headed home from work on the interstate goin about 70 mph, the drivers side starts wobbling then WHOOSH the entire mirror head just flew off and almost hit a car behind me.

another time, something broke off of the undercarriage of my truck (never was quite sure what that exactly was), but it bounced off the tarmac and hit a Ford Escort wagon behind me and broke its headlight and messed the grill up a bit, i pulled over getting ready to exchange info with the driver, but they just kept going. It was a decent sized piece of metal, not just rust, and I looked all over that truck, didn't see anything missing. However, the p/o did mickey mouse some things on it, so it was probably a homemade addition.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

Had the mirror fall out of the frame when I still had my '68 3/4 ton. Was cruising through the neighborhood on my way home and the driver's side mirror just fell out. Stupid thing was only about two months old too!

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

When i get to the last stop sign before my house i usually treat it like a drag strip and hold my truck to the floor toward my house. Well a few weeks ago i did that in the 68 and when i shifted into second the rear U-joint broke and the drive shaft fell out so i coasted up to my driveway and had to go back and pick the driveshaft up.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

1)When I first got my K/20 Highlander I had lumpy Swampers and clapped out suspension,as well as hadn`t gone over much, yet.I was toolin` down I-70 pretty good in the fast lane and I heard a "CLANK" and my rear wheel ran over something.I couldn`t see anything in my vibrating mirrors. When I got to where I was going I looked and my suspicions were confirmed. The left bumper gaurd fell off.I saw it the next day on the shoulder and just laughed.

2)Then,still before touching the suspension,I was going down Main St. in Mt.Airy, rolled over a low manhole cover and heard,"Clank twanky lank".I stopped and ran back with two old ladies on a porch looking on.It was 1/2 a leaf from my rear springs.Threw it in the bed and rolled on.I`m glad that one wasn`t on the hiway.Pretty lucky about the bumper gaurd, too. But,I was the one who mashed it and sent it over to the shoulder.

3)I had a truck hauled from San Diego back east on a flatbed. It was freshly painted and the seller put a new bedliner in rather than touch the inside of the bed.Somewhere in Oklahoma the bedliner parted ways.

I think that`s all.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I had a really bad day, I got stuck at the pumps at a gas station when my truck refused to turn over because of a heat soaked starter and then on the way home the back foot and half of both of my rusty exhausts fell off at almost exactly the same time, I stopped and ran back to see if I could at least salvage the chrome tips only to find I'd very carefull run over both of them and squashed them flat (exhausts dump in front of the rear wheels) That was pretty much the day it got taken off the road.

My drive line. I'm still not sure how all the traffic behind me missed it as it bounced across the freeway. It also took out the rear brake line that runs along the side of the frame.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I was driving my brothers 67 stepper, opened the wing for a cigarette and the 1st time I went to flick my ash... the glass was gone didnt even notice it fall but I was travelin like 50 so Im quite sure it was toast.
About 2 months ago, was driving on the freeway. Luckily at only 55. My flywheel dust cover flew off... bounced off the pavement and hit the rear driveline right on the the ujoint cap, busted the ujoint cap...made death noises as I pulled it off the road and the drive line rattled around. 2 weeks later as I was unable to find a new 3 speed flywheel cover, I stopped on the freeway and picked up the one that bounced @ 55. I hit it with the hammer n dolly for about n hour, put some paint on it... looks good lol

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

On the Ventura freeway in LA, one hot summer day in a beat-up, rented Ford F450 dumptruck. The steering box decides it's had enough of being attached to a bunch of bent old rods and decides to go it alone.

Steering wheel spinning uselessly in my hands, truck veering towards the embankment, Mexican laborers with me in the cab start praying and crossing themselves and muttering, "madre de dios" and "en el nombre de jesu christo" etc.

I'm standing on the brake pedal, willing and praying for that old POS truck to stop. It does, front tires just over the edge of the drop...why the hell there was no armco barrier there I dunno...

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I know I've lost tools that fall down between the rad support and the grille that I've simply forgot to retrieve before driving again... Sockets, wrenches, etc. I've been lucky and found tools down there that have been hitching a ride for a while.

Re: anyone have something fall off their truck while driving?

I lost four out of five quarts of oil fall out of my rusted out cab corners on the way back from the parts store. Luckily I backtracked and found them scattered over two miles. Also, I had a fiberglass roll pan mocked up on the rear, forgot it was jammed up there when I left the next day and I never found it. Believe me, I looked for it, but I figure some mini trucker found it and chopped it down for something else.
