Welcome to the forum Andy :D

Good job on your truck.

I'd agree with protrash64 on the lowering. Another thing you could do for the rear is the Jeep Wrangler spring swap.

Wow that turned out nice. Is the base coat a red primer or paint? I've never painted before, but am thinking about it on my '63.

Re: US Forest Service Truck Build Thread

The red coat is some red oxide primer. I laid it down and while it was still wet I put the green topcoat on so it would look better when I sanded through it! :)

Well - not sure about what's original. It's actually a '53 (his other one was a '45, I forgot). It did a stint in Vietnam and then came back stateside and was modified by a fire department to the configuration you see here. I don't think the fire department put a lot of miles on it.

Great job, and on a very straight truck. It's nice to see trucks built to use, rather than just to wax and polish.

Re: US Forest Service Truck Build Thread

I am completely against building useless vehicles! If your not going to drive it why build the damn thing? Haha...no waxing on this one, that might protect the paint! ;)

Love this truck. I grew up in the Mt. Hood National Forest, still live close and see these trucks new and old all the time. Thanks for the tribute. You did a killer job. Might hit you up soon when I find my next project for some paint tips.

Funny thing is I was at that show and snapped a BUNCH of pics of this thing. I want to do this style paint on my truck, Project Larry, as well.

I love seeing trucks in person that I've seen online... or vise versa. Wish I could have talked with you. Make sure to bring it to Brigham City in September for the Peach Days show. I'll try to catch you then.

I have a 65 on a 77 4x4 frame (still working on it, but getting closer). I bought a white long bed off of I think a 63 and Blue 68 GMC from you. I think it was last year.
